"Defenders" ( Eng. The Defenders , or Eng. Marvel's The Defenders ) is a crossover mini-series based on the Marvel comic book series of the same name , the main characters of which are Daredevil , Jessica Jones , Luke Cage and Iron Fist , who previously received their solo self-titled television series . Producing studios are Marvel Television and ABC Studios , and the show is carried out through streaming video service Netflix . The Defenders mini-series is part of the Marvel cinematic universe and is the fifth in the chronology of the Netflix series of series (the first television series is Daredevil , the second is Jessica Jones , the third is Luke Cage , the fourth is Iron Fist and the sixth The Punisher ). The show - runners of the mini-crossover appear Douglas Petri and Marco Ramirez, who are show-darers of “Daredevil” from the second season. The eight-episode mini-series has been available on Netflix since August 18, 2017 [1] .

Production
Development
In October 2013, Deadline announced that Marvel was preparing four drama series and one mini-series, 60 episodes in total, to be shown on Video on demand services and cable channels that Netflix , Amazon, and WGN America were interested in. [11] . A few weeks later, Marvel and Disney announced that Netflix would show drama series about Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, ending with a general mini-series based on the Defenders comics [12] .
Casting
At the end of May 2014, Charlie Cox was approved for the role of Daredevil [13] . In December 2014, Kristen Ritter was selected for the role of Jessica Jones . Later that month, Mike Colter got the role of Luke Cage [14] . On February 26, 2016, the role of the Iron Fist was won by Finn Jones .
Filming
In November 2016, filming began in New York . Filming ended at the end of March 2017.
Show
The Defenders mini-series was released on August 18, 2017 by Netflix streaming video service [15] . All 8 episodes are released simultaneously. A similar approach is not typical for traditional television channels, however, for Netflix, “binge-watching” turned out to be a good solution [16] .
Future Plans
The Defenders mini-series was the fifth series from a series of such television series as Daredevil , Jessica Jones , Luke Cage , Iron Fist [16] . In November 2013, Disney CEO Bob Eager said it was possible that they could turn into feature films [17] [18] .
