Biography
The second son of Niccolo Pignatelli , Duke of Monteleone, and Giovanna Pignatelli Tagliavia Aragon Cortes, 8th Duchess of Di Monteleone, 7th Marquise of the Oaxaca Valley.
Like his father, he served the Habsburgs in the war for the Spanish Succession , fought in Spain for Charles III , then in Hungary against the Turks, under the command of Eugene of Savoy , and then in Sicily in the Fourth Alliance War .
On March 1, 1727, he was promoted to General Field Officer , and on December 17, 1733, promoted to General Field Marshal Lieutenant .
He commanded cavalry at the Battle of Bitonto ; after the defeat of the Austrians and the conquest of the Kingdom of Naples by the Spanish troops, he left for Vienna. In reward for his loyalty, Charles VI on September 4, 1734 granted him the title of Grand Admiral of the Sicilian Kingdom , which belonged to his elder brother, Duke di Monteleone .
In 1739 he was granted the title of Knight of the Golden Fleece . December 18, 1740 promoted to General of the Field-Majors .
After the death of Charles VI and the outbreak of war for the Austrian inheritance, he returned to his homeland.
