History

The Central Argentine Railway Athletic Club ( English The Central Argentine Railway Athletic Club ) was founded on December 24, 1889 in Rosario by British railway workers. The first president was Englishman Colin Calder and all members of the club spoke only English. In 1903 , when the Rosario and Buenos Aires railroads merged, the club changed its name to Argentina's Club Atlético Rosario Central.

The original colors of the team were red and white, then white and blue, and, finally, the team came to the blue and yellow colors, in which it is still today.

In 1939, along with Newells , its worst enemy, Central joined the Argentine League before playing in the local league of Rosario.

In 1971 and 1973, the club became the champion of Argentina, twice winning tournaments Nacional. Coached the team Carlos Timoteo Griguol . In 1974, young striker Mario Kempes appeared in the club, who later became the main star of the 1978 World Championship.

Taking off in 1985 in the Second Argentine Division, Rosario Central triumphantly returned to the elite, on the move becoming the champion of Argentina 1986/1987 - one of the most unique cases in the history of world football.

In 1995, Central won the CONMEBALL Cup - the official international tournament, the third most prestigious at the time after the Libertadores Cup and the Super Bowl (the South American equivalent of the UEFA Cup during those same years).

In total, “Rosario Central” 10 times participated in the Libertadores Cup , giving up only River River and Boke Juniors in this indicator.
