For this term there is an abbreviation "UDZ", which has other meanings: see UDZ .

UDZ ( Rus. U darod- D Zantal Zapal ) is a Soviet mechanical fuse designed to detonate RGO and RGN hand-held high-explosive fragmentation grenades [1] [2] [3] . Provides operation when a grenade meets an obstacle in a wide range of angles due to the inertia of braking or from a remotely-temporary device [1] .

Device

It has five stages of protection and five functional elements inside the polyethylene housing (five springs, two igniter caps, two detonator caps), namely:

  • safety mechanism for igniting the moderator and ensuring safe handling of the grenade,
  • long-range cocking mechanism to prepare the grenade for action 1.0-1.8 seconds after the throw,
  • target sensor shock-instantaneous action to ensure the operation of the fuse when hitting an obstacle,
  • remote self -eliminator for self-detonating a grenade in 3.3-4.3 seconds if, for some reason, the target sensor did not work,
  • detonation unit for initiating the main charge of a grenade using a 7K1 detonator capsule [2] .

Performance Specifications

Dimensions, mm - 43 × 58 × 90
Weight, kg - 0.08
Docking thread in the grenade's nest - M20 × 2
Cocking time, s - 1.0-1.8
Sensitivity angle relative to the axis of the fuse grenade, ° - 0-150
The probability of shock (not less) - 0.9
The overall probability of failure-free operation is 0.98 [1] .
