| Quentin and Julia are invited to test their magic skills. Quentin passes and is admitted to the University of Breakbills. Julia fails the test and returns to her usual life, but she manages to resist erasing her memory. Refusing to admit that she cannot learn magic, she later contacts Pete, who offers to teach her. In his imagination, Quentin meets Jane Chatwin from the Fillory and Further novels, which warns him of the Beast and leaves him with a sigil (a symbol with magical powers) embedded in his hand. Recognizing the symbol, Alice asks for help with the spell. Together with Penny and Cady, they try to contact her dead brother Charlie. However, instead, they accidentally call the Beast, which appears the next day at school, attacking the teacher and dean. | ||||||

Eliot is looking for a book that Cady stole for Marina, thanks to the second volume of this book, they come to the street witches, where Quentin encounters Julia. Quentin and Julia have a serious quarrel. Penny, after being mistakenly enrolled in a class in the study of psychological disciplines, discovers that he is a "traveler" and has the ability to travel between worlds. | ||||||

| Quentin wakes up in a psychiatric hospital, he recognizes himself by the first episode, where his memories of Breakbills and magic are seen as nonsense. He sees all his friends as nuts, sings Taylor Swift's song "Shake, shake, shake", flirts with Penny, watches the cheeky Alice, who promises to mate with him, and much more. It was found that Julia and Marina created a complex hallucination, and the only way to get Quentin out of this state is to call the demon beetle. Dean Fogg lowers Breakbills' guard spells by doing this, allows Marina and Julia to enter where they steal Marina's memories of her time in Breakbills before she was expelled. Quentin, thanks to the help of Jane Chatwin and Penny, in his mind, manages to escape. Marina regains her memories and breaks off relations with Julia because of her betrayal - she tried to help Dean Fogg save Quentin. | ||||||

| Quentin visits the house after his father is diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. He cannot realize that magic cannot save his father, and in the end he tells him about magic. Julia, with the help of Pete, is trying to find other safe street wizard houses in New York after breaking up with Marina, but no one else has as many spells. Marina erases the memory of James (Julia's boyfriend) so that she does not tell him about magic. Alice returns to Breakbills, while Eliot and Margo try to use her connections to get a mentor. | ||||||

| Freshmen must pass a series of tests called "trials" invented by third-year students. During the tests, Quentin and Penny find a common language, Alice and Quentin share personal secrets (this is one of the tests), and Cady confesses to Penny that she used it. When all freshmen have passed the test, they turn into geese and fly away. Meanwhile, trying to find a way to steal spells from Marina, Julia teams up with a street sorceress who also had business with Marina. It turns out that this sorceress is Cady's mother. Cady is forced to work for Marina to pay for the mistakes of her mother. Julia and her companion manage to steal Marina’s safe, but Marina manages to hide the spells and curse the safe. Cady's mother is dying. Cady does not know about the death of her mother. | ||||||

| Having turned into geese, Quentin and his classmates go to the Breakbills branch in southern Antarctica, where they will be trained by Professor Mayakovsky. Eliot and Margot are preparing for a trip to Ibiza. They want to make an unusual gift to the Ibiza party organizers and, with the help of their new acquaintances, Mike and Todd accidentally call on the Jinn. When Eliot and Mike suddenly begin an affair, Eliot decides to stay, and Margo goes to Ibiza with Todd. Julia’s sister takes her from the police, where she ended up after the death of Cady’s mother. Sister persuades Julia to accept her help (she believes that Julia has problems with alcohol and drugs) and take a rehabilitation course until their mother finds out about it. Mayakovsky contributes to the beginning of the relationship between Quentin and Alice. He also tells Cady that her mother was dead and at Breakbills they know about her thefts for Marina. Cady has to escape, leaving everything that is dear to her. | ||||||

| Eliot and Mike are getting a lot closer. Quentin and Alice take a break to sort out their feelings. Mike attacks Quentin, Penny tries to protect him and gets hit by an enchanted blade. Quentin and Alice find a similar scene in Fillory and Beyond and save Penny from death. Mike is caught and says he doesn’t remember anything. When Eliza interrogates him, he recognizes her as Jane Chatwin and kills her. When trying to escape, he attacks the dean, but Eliot kills Mike. At the rehabilitation center, Julia meets consultant Richard, who also studied at Breakbills. Richard tells her about his theory about the connection of religion and magic. | ||||||

| Quentin finds out that it was Penny who took the manuscript that Eliza gave him in the first episode. Penny read it, and then threw it away. This manuscript was written by Jane Chatwin, not Christopher Plover, and in it Jane wanted to uncover the inconsistencies of the rest of the books and reality. Quentin, Alice, Penny and Eliot travel to Plover’s estate in England to find the button, which, according to Jane’s book, is the key to Fillory. In an estate full of ghosts, the characters learn shocking facts about the life and mysterious disappearance of Christopher Plover and the children. Quentin concludes that Plover is the Beast. Julia helps Richard penetrate the consciousness of a paralyzed woman. | ||||||

| Touching a button, Penny enters the Middle Earth - the space between the worlds. In the Middle Earth there are many fountains that are portals. Local warriors attack him, he manages to escape, but he got lost and cannot find his portal to return home. Penny finds a way to contact Quentin through his dream and finds out that time in the Middle Earths is much slower (6 hours here versus 6 weeks on Earth). Penny finds in the Middle Earths a huge library with lots of valuable information. Quentin and Alice go to her parents to find someone who can help them save Penny. They will have to figure out their relationship in order to cast the spell that will create a beacon for Penny. Eliot and Margo find out that her former friend created a golem in her image. Julia takes in her house other wizards Richard introduced to her, including Cady. Richard reveals to them his plan to call on God, as a source of tremendous magical power, to correct the mistakes of the past. | ||||||

| Quentin, Alice, Penny, Eliot and Margo use the magic of opportunity to determine their best chance to kill the Beast and survive. Their chances are slim. The only chance they don’t die is to go to Fillory and kill him there. They learn dangerous martial magic to make their way through the Middle Earths. The beast drives travelers crazy, leading many to suicide. Penny tries to drown out voices in his head with alcohol and drugs and nearly dies. Professor Sunderland helps him deal with this problem. Emotions interfere with the use of combat magic, so the heroes use a potion that drowns out all emotions for a while, but then comes a "hangover" - all emotions come back many times reinforced. During such an outcast, Quentin slept with Margo and Eliot, and Alice found out. Cady and Julia are looking for ways to call God. | ||||||

| Alice breaks off relations with Quentin because of treason and slept with Penny as revenge. Quentin, Alice, Penny, Eliot and Margo go to the Middle Earth, but are ambushed, and Quentin, along with the map, is on Earth. The rest are hiding in the library until Eliot burns the book and is driven out of there. They meet Josh, one of the missing Breakbills students. Josh tells them the story of the missing students. Meanwhile, on Earth, Quentin is turning to the dean for help. Dean tells him that Eliza is Jane Chatwin. Jane had a magic watch and could create a temporary loop to try different ways to kill the Beast. The previous 39 attempts ending with Quentin's failure and death. Jane changed things every time. The latest change was that Julia was not accepted into Breakbills so that she would study magic on her own. Quentin makes peace with Julia and tells her everything. They find a way to get to Fillory, returning in 1942 and following Jane Chatwin. | ||||||

| Once in Fillory, Julia and Quentin discovered that Martin Chatwin had followed them. They order from the blacksmith a blade that can kill the Beast, and they meet the Guardian, the future Jane Chatwin. She says goodbye to them and carries them in our time. Quentin and Julia find the rest. They get a blade, but it turns out that part of the deal is the king’s marriage to the blacksmith’s daughter. The king is Eliot. Quentin and Julia find Amber, he gives them his strength to control the blade. He also removes a false memory from Julia. It turns out that Richard tricked her. Instead of summoning a god, they summoned a demon who possessed Richard, killed all Julia's friends (Cady managed to escape) and raped her. Julia asked Marina to help her and erase this memory. Meanwhile, Eliot got married, and Penny and Alice saved Victoria and Christopher Plover from the Beast's dungeon. It turned out that the Beast is Martin Chatwin. Josh and Victoria are returning to Earth. The rest go to the source of Fillory's magic to kill the Beast. The beast is stronger. Julia grabs the blade and makes a deal with the Beast - he must help her kill the demon. They disappear, leaving the rest a little alive in Fillory. | ||||||
