The Magicians is an American fantasy television series that premiered on December 16, 2015 on the cable channel Syfy (as a special announcement). The official premiere of the series took place on January 25, 2016 (the first two episodes were shown right away) [1] [2] [3] . The show is based on the novel of the same name by Leo Grossman . Michael London, Janice Williams, John McNamara and Sera Gamble became executive producers.

On February 28, 2018, the series was extended for the fourth season of 13 episodes [4] .
In January 2019, SyFy announced that the series was extended for the fifth season, which is scheduled for release in 2020 [5]
Content
Story
The series talks about the fate of Quentin Coldwater and his friends who study together at the Breakbills School of Magic. Over the course of 4 seasons, friends face many obstacles, solve quests, save magic and each other. The action of the first season takes place at school, in the second season the characters discover the magical world of Filori and the action is partially transferred there. In the third and fourth seasons, the school fades into the background.

Design and Production
Michael London acquired the rights to film adaptation of the book in 2011 [6] and planned to make a show for the Fox channel [7] . Co-screenwriters of the movie X-Men: First Class Ashley Miller and Zach Stenz wrote the script for the pilot episode, but they did not give him the green light. Then London reworked the pilot along with McNamara and Gamble, who took over the duties of screenwriters, and the Syfy channel ordered the shooting of it. The pilot episode was shot by Mike Cahill in New Orleans at the end of 2014 [8] [9] . Syfy ordered the first season of thirteen episodes in May 2015 [10] to aired in January 2016. McNamara and Gamble became executive producers of the show. [10]
Production of the series began on August 4, 2015 in Vancouver , and it was also announced that Olivia Taylor Dudley replaced Sosie Bacon as Alice Quinn. In addition, it became known that Rick Worthy got the role of Dean Fogg, Anne Dudek - Pearl Sunderland, and Esme Bianco joined the cast [2] .
Syfy released the first full series of Wizards on December 16, 2015 as an advertising move. The replay of the first series and the premiere of the second took place on January 25, 2016 [3] .
On February 8, 2016, the series was extended for the second season [11] , April 12, 2017 for the third [12] (premiered on January 10, 2018) and February 28, 2018 for the fourth season of 13 episodes, which premiered on January 23, 2019 [13]

Criticism Reviews
The first season at Rotten Tomatoes has 74% “freshness” based on 46 reviews with an average rating of 6.47 / 10, [14] but the ratings and popularity of the show grew with each new season and the third season has 100% “freshness” with a general consensus "Amazing and wildly interesting, the third season demonstrates that the authors still have many ways to enchant the audience." The fourth season, according to critics, confidently kept the bar at 100% “freshness”, gaining an increasingly cult status. The consensus of critics says that “the fourth season of“ Wizards excites the imagination, reviving the plot with unexpected and bewitching turns and all this is mixed with the company’s brisk humor ” [15] . In Russia, a positive review of the series was published by the magazine World of Fantasy [16] .
