She began to give concerts, mainly apartment ones , at which she performed her songs with a guitar. Diaghilev quickly gained fame and respect in the Soviet rock underground, Yankee's unauthorized albums were published.
During her lifetime, Janka was not actually noticed by the official media. She really did not like to give interviews, rejected the proposal of “ Melody ” on the release of the disc, the television did not shoot video materials about Janka. Diaghilev never aspired to popularity and did not contribute in any way to the "promotion" of her name.
| - Just talk - please. But the newspaper should not have a single line. - But why? Maybe you don’t need it, but others need it? “Those who need it will figure out who I am and why.” [2] |
She died in May 1991. The circumstances of the death are not fully understood. The official conclusion of the investigation is drowning as a result of an accident.
Biography
Life Path
Yana Diaghileva was born on September 4, 1966 in Novosibirsk in a family of engineers Stanislav Ivanovich and Galina Dementievna Diaghilev. She graduated from high school No. 42 (now Gymnasium No. 1) of the city of Novosibirsk; she also studied piano for one year at a music school, but abandoned her studies. After that there was a desire to learn how to play the guitar. She mastered the guitar in a circle at the Fat Factory club. I did not like exact sciences, she showed a penchant for the humanitarian, in particular for literature; wrote well essays. I read a lot, among her favorite authors were Marina Tsvetaeva , Anna Akhmatova , Nikolai Gumilyov , Andrey Platonov . Already in her school years she wrote poems (several poems presumably her authorship, transcribed by her school friend, have been preserved; however, they are quite different from later works and it is possible that Janka herself rewritten them from somewhere [3] [4] ), sang and played on the guitar, participated in school activities. In 1984 she entered the Novosibirsk Institute of Water Transport Engineers . She was a member of the ensemble of political songs "AMIGO". In the second year I left the institute [2] .
By 1985 are the first poems that have reached us, the authorship of which is beyond doubt.
In October 1986, Yana's mother died of cancer.
April 1987 - meeting with Yegor Letov .
January 1988 - recording of the first album "Not Allowed". June 24 - the first performance on the big stage at the punk festival in Tyumen , the recording of the bootleg “Declassified Elements”.
In 1988-1990, Janka and Civil Defense traveled around the country. In Leningrad, they met Sergei Firsov , who became their director during this period. The first performance in this city is considered an outstanding concert in the theater hall "Time" in Avtovo . This event was the first concert in Leningrad for Yanka and the groups “ Vopli Vidoplyasova ”, “ Civil Defense ”, “ Didn't Wait ”; the fifth member of the concert was the local " AuktsYon " [5] .
Firsov organized numerous concerts, filming of these concerts, lodgers , performances at rock festivals throughout the country.
Albums were recorded, including in Leningrad, at Firsov’s apartment (“Sold!”). After Tallinn and Leningrad there were concerts in Crimea , after which they returned to Tyumen [5] .
In November 1990, the last public performances of the Yankees took place, about which there is information: concerts in Irkutsk and Angarsk , a housekeeper in Leningrad , the last concert recording of the Yankees was made on November 10 in Irkutsk. In February 1991, several more concerts were planned in Irkutsk, but there is no reliable information about them, it is not even known whether they took place or not. At the end of February 1991 in Novosibirsk in the NETI hostel, Janka writes down her latest songs: “Above Your Feet From the Ground”, “On the Pyatak Road”, “About the Devils” and “Water Will Come”.
Yankee Death
At about 7 p.m. on May 9, 1991 (this day was accepted as the official date of her death), Yana left her summer house near Novosibirsk, where she was with her family, and did not return; searches in the nearby forest were unsuccessful. According to unconfirmed information, some of Yankee's close friends received a postcard from her on May 10. Its approximate text is: “Let everything be fine with you. I love you very much. God grant you to avoid all the trouble. " On May 17, her body was found by a fisherman in the Inya River near the Izdrevaya station (according to other sources, near the Inskaya station ). May 19, Yanka was buried in Novosibirsk at the Zaeltsovsky cemetery . At the funeral, more than a thousand people gathered. After the funeral, Letov went into Yanka’s house and seized all of her letters, drafts and other papers that are currently held by his widow Natalya Chumakova [2] .
The exact time, place and circumstances of the death of Yana Diaghileva are still unknown. According to some assumptions, she drowned near the Novorodnikovy stop platform (about 40 kilometers upstream from the place where the body was discovered).
After Yankee's death, many different versions of what happened appeared. The investigation did not finally establish whether it was an accident or suicide. The authorities accepted the version of drowning in an accident; according to the forensic examination, no violent injuries were found on the body.
Proponents of the suicide version have made various assumptions about possible motives. It is known that in the winter and spring of 1991, Janka suffered from depression , which intensified after the next arrival of Letov. Shortly before Yana’s death, on April 23, due to the negligence of doctors, her stepbrother (the son of S. Diaghilev’s second wife) Sergey Shurakov died. Yegor Letov several times declared the existence of a suicide note in which Janka explained the reasons for her suicide, but in the end admitted that it was his fiction and no note existed [6] [7] .
There is a version about the murder: in particular, Yegor Letov and Vadim Kuzmin (leader of the group " Black Lukich ") in their interviews did not exclude this possibility. According to this version, the head of the Yankee was broken, and there was no water in the lungs (which is a sign that death occurred before it got into the water) [8] . Documented information is not confirmed; supporters of this version explain this by the police’s reluctance to take up the investigation into the murder. According to Letov, the assassins were drunken hooligans , whom Yanka accidentally met. Some of her friends suspect a specific person, one of her acquaintances [9] .
Creativity ratings
In the film “ Healthy and Forever, ” Oleg Sudakov spoke:
Tyumen, 88th or 89th year. Yanka sings songs, she’s just bumping into her, such episodes, “I get bogged down with every mink hat.” Five or six girls are sitting on the edge of the stage, then, in my opinion, this “wool” was Angora, there were such shaggy pullovers, so, there were short skirts, naturally there with a needle. And is Janka. She seems to be singing all this, and all, say, other people, as if from another opera, understand that, generally speaking, this is impossible. Behave to a girl like that. On the other hand, she was so a little tight, such a little bear ... But she talks about what they are afraid to admit to themselves. And at that moment they just cried. I seemed to notice a few tears in the girls. They understand that they can never be like that. That is, this one is not in the sense on the stage, but in the sense of seeing the world like this. I'd like to be like that. But you will never be like that. But it’s terribly cool that she at least showed it and they took it in that second.
Discography
The copyright for all the works of Yanka is currently owned by her friend Anna Volkova (in the 1990s she was married to Yegor Letov), to whom S. I. Diaghilev transferred them after the death of his daughter [7] .

- In June 2013, the Novosibirsk City Hall refused the initiative group of citizens to install a memorial plaque in a private house at 61 Yadrintsevskaya , where Yanka Diaghilev lived her whole life [14] . The initiative group collected sufficient funds for the manufacture, installation and maintenance of the board, the consent of the owners and residents of the house, as well as a number of letters of support [14] [15] were obtained. Rector of the local conservatory Konstantin Kurlenya also opposed the installation. According to him, if the singer was alive, then in response to the proposal to install the board, “she would send all the fuck.” However, already in January 2014, the decision of the city authorities was reviewed, and the city naming commission approved the installation of the memorial plaque [16] .
