Erlanger, Maxim Maksimovich

Maxim Maksimovich (Maximilian) Erlanger (1811 or 1812, Frankfurt - March 12 ( 24 ), 1873 , Moscow ) - Russian composer, conductor, musical figure, music publisher.

He comes from a banking family in Frankfurt . Early showing a penchant for music, Erlanger began to learn to play the violin and engage in composition. For some time he lived in the Netherlands and Belgium, where he married the daughter of the Dutch artist P.-T. van Brussels . In 1840 he came to Russia. At first he worked in St. Petersburg at the Mariinsky Theater , then moved to Moscow . From 1848 until his death in 1873 he served as the conductor of the Maly Theater Orchestra , for whose performances he selected and composed music. The author of more than 400 pieces of music - piano pieces, romances, dance music. From the mid-1850s he was engaged in publishing, in the years 1870-1872 he published the musical and literary magazine Musical Bulletin. In 1857, he opened the Lira music store on Bolshaya Lubyanka , where he mainly sold his own music products. In 1873, P.I. Jurgenson acquired the rights to all Erlanger editions. He was buried in Moscow at the Vvedensky cemetery . The tomb of M. M. Erlanger is assigned to the category of objects of cultural heritage of regional significance [1] [2] [3] .
