Biography

Randolph Severn Parker III was born in Conifer , Colorado , and was the youngest of two children, Randy Parker and Sharon Parker (who served as prototypes for the characters of South Park, Randy and Sharon Marsh ); the eldest was a sister, Shelley Parker, who became the prototype of Shelly Marsh in the series. Parker’s father at one time tried to captivate his son with the Buddhist teachings of the philosopher Alan Watts [1] . In 1985, Parker and his friend Dave Goodman, who will later be involved as a screenwriter in some episodes 1-3 of South Park, recorded Immature: A Collection of Love Ballads For The '80's Man ; It was completed in 1987, and later several copies were sold on eBay [2] . Parker studied at West Jefferson Junior High School, and then at Evergreen High School in Evergreen , Colorado (where he was elected the “class clown”); he graduated from school in Evergreen in 1988 .

After school, Parker began to study at the Berkeley College of Music in Boston , but soon moved to the University of Colorado at Boulder , where he met Matt Stone [3] . At that time, Parker's main interest was music, but gradually he became interested in filming; He began to attend special courses to familiarize himself with the details of the filming process. Parker made a number of short animated films at the University, including American History , which received the Student Academy Award, and the Spirit of Christmas: Jesus vs. Frosty with Stone. The question of whether he was expelled from the University remains open, but Parker himself in an interview admitted that the reason for graduation was non-attendance during "about a semester" due to the filming of the film " Cannibal! The Musical ” [4] . This film, the first major project of Parker and Stone, was a black comedy with musical elements about the story of Alfred Packer , the traveler and the first person in the history of the United States convicted of cannibalism. During the summer, Parker shot a trailer, with the help of which he could later find money to shoot the whole picture; filming began during the summer holidays of 1993 , but the film was released only in 1996 , when Troma bought the rights to it. She also renamed the film “Cannibal! The Musical ”instead of the original“ Alferd Packer, The Musical ”.

This 1995 student Parker film was spotlighted by Fox executive Brian Graden , who asked Parker and Stone to film a Christmas video card for him. This is how the short animated film Christmas Spirit appeared : Jesus vs. Santa , in which the famous characters Stan , Kyle , Cartman and Kenny watched the battle of Jesus and Santa for the right to lead Christmas in the future.

In the same year, Parker, with the participation of Stone, shot a pilot series of the planned series called Time Warped for Fox - it was a pseudo-documentary satirical musical story about Aaron and Moses with the participation of actors from Cannibal. Fox executives decided it was better to apply this idea as part of a children's show, and Parker made the second pilot series - referring to Romeo and Juliet a love story between Homo erectus and Australopithecus against the background of the enmity of their species for Fox Kids . However, after the release of Aaron and Rom & Jul, the project was closed.

In 1997, Parker acted as co-producer, screenwriter (with Stone) and director of his second full-length film, Orgasmo , a story about Mormon who accidentally ends up in Los Angeles porn business . Due to the film receiving a hard rating of NC-17 according to the Cinema Association of America, he did not receive wide distribution. In the same year, due to the popularity of two short animated films “The Spirit of Christmas ”, the most famous project of Parker and Stone, “ South Park ”, began; they were hired by Comedy Central to make a show based on the characters from Jesus vs. Santa. The first episode of the series premiered on August 13, 1997 [5] .

Initially, Parker and Stone believed that the show would last about six episodes, and considered the production of the animated series only as a means of promotion for their rock band . The group, in which Parker acted as lead vocalist and keyboard player, was named DVDA in honor of the double vaginal - double anal sex position mentioned in Orgasmo . Despite the fact that the DVDA has not released a single studio album and is currently inactive, they acted as the opening act for Primus and Ween , their songs were included on the soundtracks for many projects of Parker and Stone (for example, “America Fuck Yeah” from “ Team America "); their humorous song “I am Chewbacca ” became popular on the Internet.

In 1998, Parker, Stone, as well as Diane Bahar and Yasmine Blyth starred in the famous base comedy director David Zucker “ Baseball ”. The plot of the film tells the story of three friends who make the yard game they invented popular and fall into the world of professional sports. Parker later parodied this film in the episode “ Passion of the Jews ” in “South Park”: Stan says that he wants to return the money for the “lousy” film, “ Passion of Christ ,” in his opinion, “just like I returned it for BASetball.”

In 1999, a full-length film based on “South Park” was released - “ South Park: Longer, Longer and Out of Bill ”, which achieved significant critical success and was nominated for an Oscar [3] for the song “ Blame Canada ”. However, the award in this category went to Phil Collins , who was later spoofed in several episodes of South Park .

In 2000, the contract for South Park was extended for another three seasons, and in parallel, Parker and Stone were thinking about creating a live sitcom . There was an idea to use the president of the USA as the protagonist of the series, who would be shown as a direct and eccentric character falling into the pattern situations for sitcoms, and in parallel with this, acute political issues should be addressed in the series. During the 2000 presidential election, more work was going on to create a series about El Gore - Parker was sure that he would win; however, after the victory of George W. Bush , the idea for the show “ This is my Bush! ", 8 episodes of which were released in 2001 . Each of the series of this series was built according to a conceived scheme. The show was decided not to leave for the second season due to the low ratings that did not match the cost of creating one episode (about $ 700,000).

In 2003, the contract for South Park was once again renewed. In October 2004, the full-length puppet cartoon " Team America: World Police " was released; Parker is the creator of the film along with Stone, co-producer, screenwriter and one of the leading voice actors. “Team America” is an evil satirical comedy parodying at the same time template films in the spirit of Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay , the Thunderbirds TV puppet cartoon, based on which heroes were created, typical ideas about the “ American dream ”, and American cheers and reaching the point of absurdity in their methods of combating terrorism.

On September 9, 2005, the contract with Comedy Central at South Park was once again renewed - until season 12. This surprised the fans, because in an interview with Parker and Stone, they repeatedly mentioned that they were tired while working on Team America and did not want to do absolutely nothing yet.

At one time, there were rumors that Parker and Stone were working on a stage musical with the creators of Avenue Q Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx [6] . Parker and Stone also had the idea to create their own company on the basis of cooperation with Paramount . In 2006 , a three-year contract was signed for cooperation with Paramount Pictures ; The company was named Trunity, a Mediar company and created as part of True Mediar, a Unity Corpbopoly . Both Paramount and Comedy Central are owned by Viacom and continue to collaborate even after it split into two at the end of 2005.

Parker and Stone are currently planning two new films. The first, My All-American, is supposed to be a comedy set in high school. It is assumed that he was due out in 2008 [7] . The second, "Giant Monsters Attack Japan!" ( Rus. Giant monsters attack Japan ! ) - a parody of Japanese films like the Godzilla series - was due out in 2009 [8] [9] . Trey Parker also performed vocals in the title track for Adult Swim Saul of the Molemen . On August 26, 2007, it became known from the New York Times that Parker and Stone extended the contract for South Park with Comedy Central for another three seasons, that is, a total of 15 seasons should come out [10] . On September 28, 2007, Parker and Stone bought the rights to the Canadian- made show Kenny vs. Spenny [11] , which began on display at Comedy Central on November 14, 2007 with ten old and new episodes.

In January 2006, Parker married Emma Sagiyamo [12] , divorced in 2008. He later began dating Boogie Tillmon, whom he married in April 2014. He has a daughter from his second marriage. He currently resides in Los Angeles [3] .

Personal Views

  • In "South Park" various religious organizations were often ridiculed; however, Parker himself is also known for criticizing atheism . In September 2006, in an interview with ABC news's Nightline program, Parker outlined religious beliefs. When an interviewer, Jake Tepper , asked Parker if he believed in God , he answered, “Yes.” Parker believes that there is knowledge that mankind does not yet possess and warned that explanations of his faith would take a lot of time. Parker believes all religions are stupid. He claims that “All religions are super-merry to me ... The story of Jesus makes no sense to me. God sent his only son. Why can God have only one son, and why should he die? This is actually a bad scenario. And he’s really terrible about the second act. "Parker then remarked," Of all the ridiculous religious stories that are very, very funny - the stupidest I heard is the giant Universe , which is gradually expanding and must collapse on its own, and we are all simply because we are all. For me personally, this is the most absurd explanation of all ” [13] [14] . He also specified that it took him a long time to realize his faith in God. Stone added: "I still don't understand this."
  • Parker learned Japanese at the university and in the future always maintained a significant interest in the Japanese language and culture [15] . He also knows Swahili. [16]
