Dujardin's research was important for many departments of zoology. So, he was the first to oppose Ehrenberg 's views on the structure of ciliates and showed that they, like rhizopods, consist of living organic matter, which he called sarcode. Dujardin's studies on worms are also important. He proved for the first time the origin of jellyfish from kidney polyps.
