Escape from Moscow Women's Prison

The escape of 13 convicts from the Moscow Women's Penitentiary Prison on July 1, 1909 is an event in the history of the Russian revolutionary movement that has no analogues. The revolutionary chronicle knows of no other successful shoots of such a large group of convicts of hard labor, political prisoners, especially women, [1] .

Novinsky Women's Prison

The Moscow Women's Prison was located near Novinsky Boulevard [2] , on the corner of Novinsky and Krivovedensky Lanes. The lane separated the prison from the territory of the Church of Our Lady of Kazan. At the corner of these alleys was the only outside post guarding the rear facade of the prison buildings. Only the area closest to the post was accessible to observation from this post. The churchyard was fenced off from the Krivovedensky lane with a lattice, easily climbed fence. A thick acacia was planted inside the courtyard along the entire fence, hiding the churchyard from the eyes of the observer from the side of the lanes. Between acacias there were gaps with places trampled at the grate, through which it was possible to observe the entire Krivovedensky lane and the buildings included in it. The churchyard through the gate in Novinsky Lane was accessible to everyone - and was not guarded day or night. The prison building, from which the prisoners fled, was two-story.
