Edgar Ortenberg ( born Edgar Ortenberg , real name Eleazar ; June 17, 1900 , Odessa - May 16, 1996 , Philadelphia ) is an American violinist of Russian origin.

Biography
Born in the family of Joseph Ortenberg and Dorothea Korduner. He studied at the Odessa Conservatory with Naum Blinder , then in Paris with Jacques Thibault . In 1924 he returned to Odessa and took the post of accompanist in the Odessa Opera House Orchestra . However, in 1926 he left Odessa, now forever.
Ortenberg first settled in Berlin , where he led his own string quartet. After the Nazis came to power in 1933 he moved to Paris, where he performed under the name Edgar Ortambert ( French Edgar Ortambert ), in 1937 received French citizenship. He led various chamber compositions (Ortamber Chamber, Ortamber Trio), at the head of which he recorded, in particular, the trio sonatas of Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann , the trio of Franz Schubert and Joaquin Turin .
After the Nazi invasion of France in 1940 , he fled through Portugal to New York . In 1944 - 1949 played the second violin in the Budapest quartet . From 1949 to 1988 , he taught in Philadelphia.
