Julius Engelbert Röntgen ( Dutch: Julius Engelbert Röntgen ; May 9, 1855 , Leipzig, Saxony , now Germany - September 13, 1932 , Utrecht, Netherlands) - Dutch composer, pianist, conductor, folklorist and teacher of German origin.

Biography

The son of violinist Engelbert Roentgen and pianist Paulina Klengel. Apprentice Moritz Hauptmann , Karl Reinecke (composition). He was known as a conductor and pianist, in particular, accompanied by Johannes Messart . Participated in a trio with Joseph Hubert Kramer . Professor and director of the Amsterdam Conservatory in 1912-1924. The creative manner of Roentgen was influenced by Johannes Brahms and Edward Grieg , with whom he was friendly, and even wrote a biography about the latter. He was a passionate collector of national musical folklore. Among the students Bernhard van den Sigtenhorst-Meyer , Hugo van Dalen and others.

He was twice married. Children from both marriages have chosen a musical career. So, the eldest son Julius Roentgen Jr. became a famous violinist.
