The Mareotid episcopate ( Greek Επισκοπή Μαρεώτιδος ) is the titular diocese of the Alexandrian Orthodox Church .
It got its name from the Mareotis area in Lower Egypt to the west of the Nile delta near Lake Mareotis (now Maryut ) [1] . On the densely populated coast was the city of Marea [2] .
In the XX century it was revived as a titular bishopric. The bishops of Mareotis served as vicars of the Patriarchs of Alexandria.
