As an amateur, he won the US national welterweight championship three times in a row, and also represented the United States at the London Summer Olympics , where he lost to Russian boxer Andrei Zamkovoy in the quarterfinal [1] . In 2015, sports publications such as ESPN and Sports Illustrated assigned him the status of “Most Promising Boxer” [1] .
As of March 2017, Spence was 6th in the welterweight category according to the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board [2] , 7th in the Ring opinion and 9th in BoxRec [3] [4] .

US Championship 2008
He performed in the welterweight category (up to 69 kg). In the 1/16 finals, Wesley Padilla defeated. Glen Tapia won the 1/8 finals . In the quarter-finals he defeated Leandre White. In the semifinals, lost to Greg Carter [5] .
Gold Gloves 2008
He performed in welterweight (up to 68.95 kg). In the 1/8 finals, he defeated Leandre White. In the quarterfinal, he lost to Nick Brinson [6] .

He performed in welterweight (up to 68.95 kg). In the 1/16 finals, Jose Bernal defeated. In the 1/8 finals, David Greighton IV defeated. He defeated John Sabalu in the quarterfinals. Eduardo Alicia won the semi-finals. In the final, he defeated Javont Starks [7] .

He performed in the welterweight category (up to 69 kg). In the 1/32 finals, Iranian Amin Hasemipur defeated with a score of 28:10. In the 1/16 final, he defeated Canadian Castio Clayton with a score of 18: 9. In the 1/8 finals, Hungarian Imre Bachkai won with a score of 26:16. In the quarterfinal, he lost to Kazakh Serik Sapiev with a score of 10:20 [13] .
2012 Olympics
He performed in the welterweight category (up to 69 kg). In the 1/16 finals, the Brazilian defeated Mike Carvalho with a score of 16-10. In the 1/8 finals, the Indian defeated Vikas Krishan with a score of 15-13. In the quarterfinal, he lost to Russian Andrei Zamkovoy with a score of 11-16.
Professional career
He made his debut in the professional ring on November 9, 2012, having won by knockout in the 3rd round [14] [15] .
On April 16, 2016, he knocked out in the 5th round of the ex-world welterweight champion of the American Chris Algieri [16] .
On August 21, 2016, he knocked out the Italian Leonard Bund in the 6th round and became the official contender for the IBF world welterweight title [17] .
Championship fight with Kell Brook
On May 27, 2017, he met with IBF World Welterweight Champion Briton Kell Brook . The fight turned out to be very close and competitive. At the beginning of the match, Brooke looked better, who managed to keep the opponent at the right distance. However, during the battle, Spence became more active. The American was slightly faster than the British and threw more punches. In the second half of the fight, Brooke had a hematoma under his left eye. Over time, it increased and clearly interfered with the champion. In the 10th round, Errol knocked the opponent down. In the 11th round, Brooke knelt down and was knocked down again. Brooke showed that he could not continue the fight because of a strong hematoma and the referee stopped the fight [18] [19] .
The Fight with Lamont Peterson
On January 20, 2018, he met with the ex-world champion in two weight categories, American Lamont Peterson . Spence fully controlled the course of the battle, was faster and more accurate than his opponent. In the 5th round, the champion knocked out the challenger. Spence's advantage was increasing and, after the 7th round, Peterson's corner refused to continue the fight [20] .
On June 16, 2018, he knocked out Mexican Carlos Ocampo in the 1st round of [21] [22] .
Fight with Mikey Garcia
On March 16, 2019, he met the world champion in four weight categories without defeating American Mikey Garcia . Both boxers spent the first two rounds in a cautious manner, studying each other. Gradually, Spence began to seize the advantage. The American was a little faster and delivered tougher blows. By the end of the bout, Errol’s advantage has already become overwhelming. The judges unanimously gave the victory to the current welterweight champion [23] [24] .
