Biography

Zosim Aleksandrovich Erin was born into a peasant family in the village of Verkhnee Shilovo, Pinezhsky district, Arkhangelsk province (currently the Krasnoborsky district of the Arkhangelsk region ). In 1942 he graduated from the Maimaksan Forestry Technical School, worked at sawmill No. 25.

On February 20, 1943, he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army by the Solombalsky district military enlistment office of Arkhangelsk . Since May 22, 1943 on the fronts of World War II .

By order of the 173rd Infantry Division of October 29, 1943, for the courage and heroism in the battles against the Nazi invaders, the Red Army soldier Yerin was awarded the medal “For Courage” .

Red Army soldier Erin November 14, 1943 in a battle near the village of Bobrova in the Dubrovensky district of the Vitebsk region, under enemy fire, made a passage in a minefield and wire fence, which ensured the advance of the infantry unit. By order of the 173rd Infantry Division, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.

Corporal Erin was the first to break into the enemy’s trench during an assault on a height of 167 m on February 12, 1944. He was wounded, but refused to leave the battlefield. By order of the 33rd Army of March 29, 1944, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.

During the defensive battles of April 26 — May 7, 1944, Corporal Erin placed 800 anti-tank mines in the range of the division under machine-gun fire. He worked under fire at a distance of 60-150 meters from the front line of the enemy. By order of the 173rd Division of May 10, 1944, he was awarded the Order of the Red Star .

On March 2, 1945, in battles in East Prussia near the Vorvegen folklore on the Danzig - Königsberg highway, in an offensive battle, the squad leader Junior Sergeant Erin burst into the reinforced concrete bridge, shooting enemy soldiers with personal weapons. Yerin noticed that two of the enemy sappers killed in the battle had already managed to lay incendiary tubes in an explosive charge and snatched them seconds before the explosion, which could destroy the bridge. The bridge was saved and could provide an attack of tanks across the bridge. By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 19, 1945, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.

Sergeant Yerin was demobilized in October 1945. He returned to his homeland. He lived in Arkhangelsk, worked as the head of the Quality Department , then as a foreman at a sawmill 25 .

In 1985, to mark the 40th anniversary of the Victory, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree .

Zosim Alexandrovich Erin passed away on October 1, 1988. He was buried in Arkhangelsk at the Maimaksansky cemetery [1] .
