Dirk Martens owned three ancient and several new languages. For more than half a century he published humanistic literature in the Netherlands , mainly in Antwerp , contributing to the assertion of its popularity in educated circles of society. He published the writings of ancient authors, as well as J. Pico della Mirandola , A. Poliziano , R. Agricola , Erasmus , H. Vives , published grammar of Greek and Hebrew languages , printed the first letter of Columbus from his trip to America and first published “ Utopia ” T. Mora .
Many humanists collaborated with Martens Publishing House. A friend of Erasmus, lawyer Peter Egidius , to whom T. More devoted his “Utopia”, worked for a long time in his printing house .
