Biography
Before the crash
Ethan was born on the Island in 1977, the son of Horace Goodspeed and Amy of the DHARMA Initiative . By the time he turned 11 (1988), Ethan joined the “Others” and helped Ben with the kidnapping of little Alex from Daniel Rousseau . Ethan states that he lived in Ontario, Canada , for some time, [2] but this was part of his alibi for the survivors of Flight 815. Ethan worked as a surgeon for Others. [3] Prior to the crash of flight 815 , Ethan encounters John Locke, traveling in time, on the day when the plane of drug dealers crashes on the island. Ethan shoots him in the leg and almost kills John, before the leap over time takes John forward in time. Ethan does not seem to remember the meeting at this time. Somewhere three years before the disaster, he travels from a island to Florida on a submarine to recruit Juliet Burke , with the help of Richard Alpert . [4] Ethan’s wife dies during childbirth and his child also does not survive. [five]
After the crash
When Oceanic Flight 815 crashes on the island on September 22, 2004, Ethan’s boss, Ben Linus , sends him to show himself as a survivor from the fuselage [6] and make a list of survivors. [7] Ethan basically keeps himself aloof. He takes blood samples to determine if Claire is facing pregnancy problems, and hunts with John Locke . When Hugo "Hurley" Reyes asks for information about Ethan for the census , Ethan lies to him that his last name is "Rum" and that he is from Canada. Knowing that he would be exposed even before he completed the surviving list, Ethan kidnaps Charlie Pace and the pregnant Claire Littleton for scientific research. Ethan finds the leader of the survivors, Jack Shepard , who follows him, and beats him. He warns Jack that he will kill either Claire or Charlie if Jack continues to follow him. Charlie was later found hanging from a tree, and Jack was able to resuscitate him. [eight]
Ethan is examining Claire at the DHARMA Initiative station called The Staff. He asks her questions about her pregnancy and introduces Juliet's serum to her. Ethan inserts a remote-acting implant to her, which is later used to cause nausea and bleeding. He pumps it up and tries to convince her to give up her child to pass it on to him and to the “Others”, declaring that they are “good people”. In this segment, Tom is bothering with Ethan, who is clearly upset that Ethan was unable to complete the list, which seems very important to Others. When Ethan prepares to perform a Caesarean section on Claire, Alex releases her, and Ethan begins to search for unsuccessful searches. [9]
Having lost Claire, [10] Ethan is trying to get her back, telling Charlie that he will kill one survivor every night if Claire is not returned to him. [11] The next morning, Scott Jackson is killed. Survivors suggest that Ethan killed him. The next day, Claire suggests using himself as bait to lure Ethan out of the jungle. Locke, Jack, Kate , Said and Sawyer ambush, and when Ethan comes to pick up Claire, Jack attacks him. During the fight, Jack defeats Ethan. Before the rest of the runners can get any answers from him, Charlie shoots Ethan four times, killing him. [12]
Alternative reality
The episode " Kate 's Deeds " shows that Ethan survived the destruction of the Island, and that he is a doctor in Los Angeles, under his real name, Ethan Goodspeed. His life with the absence of the Island has not yet been developed.
Casting
William Mapother did not audition; He was chosen by co-creator / executive producer JJ Abrams , who recognized him from the movie “ In the Bedroom, ” September 22, 2004, the day the “Lost” premiere took place. [13] Mapother was originally signed for two episodes. His contract was extended to a total of four episodes in the first season. Mapother has since appeared in flashbacks of five episodes during the second , third and fifth seasons , a total of ten episodes . Ethan also appears in the mob of “ Lost: The Missing Elements ” called “ The meeting of Ethan and Jack. Ethan? Jack . As Mapother points out, Ethan appeared in episodes more after his death, and not when he was alive. Mapother described Ethan as "funny." The character name is an anagram from "Other Man" [14] and "More Than". Mapother is a Lost fan and has not missed a single episode. [15] Devon Gearhart played young Ethan in the episode " Dead is Dead ".
Feature
In the first season, Ethan was portrayed as a “brooding villain,” “cold and angry,” and “creepy,” and later as the “chic guy next door.” Mapother felt that he was not evil, and that Ethan had his own reasons for acting the way he acted. [15]
Criticism
IGN concluded that Ethan’s death was the saddest in “Lost,” since Ethan could provide answers to many of the island’s secrets. [sixteen]
