Description
The weapon was planned for production on the basis of parts from the British STEN submachine gun, produced in Germany under the name MP-3008 or Gerät Potsdam (mainly a stock and a cartridge receiver). Wimmershergers were produced under an intermediate cartridge of 7.92 x 33 mm and used magazines with 30 rounds from conventional StG-44 .
There were three options for the machine:
- Spz-l (“lange Bauart”, long sample ) with trigger trigger type, pistol grip a la StG-44;
- Spz-kr ("Kurze Bauart mit Regler für Serienfeuer", a short sample for continuous shooting ) with trigger trigger type, without pistol grip (the store itself played the role);
- Spz-kv ("kurze Bauart mit Verschlußzündung", a short sample with a shutter ) with a trigger-type trigger, without a pistol grip (the store itself played the role).
All three options used the principle of removal of powder gases, had interchangeable barrels, and could conduct both single and continuous fire. For firing a single fire it was enough to press the trigger and move it about half, for firing bursts it was necessary to shift the trigger to the maximum [1] . Later, a similar principle (including bullpup technology) was implemented in the Austrian Steyr AUG assault rifle.
At the moment, there is no data on the production and use of this type of weapon: there is no mention of this either in the official documents of the Third Reich or in the archives of German weapons companies. But the presence of von Wimmerscherger’s contacts with the companies Mauser , Simson & Co, Fokker about the development and production of some weapons [1] is confirmed. After the war, von Wimmersperg himself left for Detroit ( USA ), where he patented a child car seat [2] .
