Biography

Born on October 1, 1931 in Odessa in a family of doctors. He graduated from high school No. 47 with a gold medal in 1948, and in 1953 (with honors) from the Faculty of Marine Engineering of the Odessa Institute of Marine Engineering (JIIMF) and received the qualification of a mechanical engineer with a degree in marine machinery.

After graduation, he worked at the Riga Shipbuilding and Shiprepairing Plant and (concurrently) taught at the Riga River School. In 1955 he returned to Odessa, where he worked at the Avtogenmash plant. Since 1956 - at the research and teaching work at the IIIIF. In 1964, under the guidance of Ya. Z. Kazavchinsky, he defended his thesis [2] , and in 1980 at the Institute of High Temperatures of the USSR Academy of Sciences (Moscow) - his doctoral dissertation.

During his scientific and pedagogical activity he published over 500 scientific and methodological works. Among them are 16 monographs, most of which are reprinted in the USA, as well as 12 tables of standard reference data (SSS). Monographs and SSD tables were an essential part of the system of providing the national economy with data on the thermophysical properties of technically important gases and liquids. In 1987, A. A. Wasserman, as part of a group of leading thermophysicists, was awarded the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR for the development of this system.

For successes in scientific work and the training of highly qualified specialists for the navy, he was awarded the badge "Honorary Worker of the Navy" in 1991. October 25, 2017 was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine . He was also awarded the signs of the Odessa Mayor “For Services to the City” (2011) and the “Badge of Honor” (2016) [3] , the “Honorary Badge of Honor” of the Odessa Regional State Administration (2011), and the “Honorary Badge” of the Odessa Regional Council (2016) and the Sign "For Scientific Achievements" of the Council of Rectors of Universities of Odessa Region (2017).

From 1966 to 1991, he was a member of the Bureau of the Commission of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR on tables of the thermodynamic properties of gases and liquids, chairman of the Soviet and a member of the international working groups on the properties of atmospheric gases. From 1983 to 1991, a member of the Scientific Council of the USSR Academy of Sciences on the problem of "Thermophysics and Thermal Engineering". For many years he was a member of the section of the Scientific and Technical Council of the State Standard, an expert of the State Standard Reference Data Service and a member of the editorial board of the collection “Thermophysical Properties of Substances”.

In 1991, he was included in the Subcommittee on the Transport Properties of Substances of the International Union for Theoretical and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) .

A. A. Wasserman was elected a member of the Transport Academy of Ukraine (1993) and a member of the International Academy of Refrigeration (1998). Since 1994 - Member of the Scientific and Methodological Commission of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine in the field of " Energy " and a member of the working group on the development of standards of higher education. For many years - Deputy Chairman of the Commission of the Council of Rectors of the Odessa region on the analysis and debriefing of the activities of universities. He is a member of the editorial boards of three scientific journals, as well as two specialized scientific councils for the defense of doctoral dissertations.

Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine.
