Biography

He came from a poor noble family of the Kaznakovs : father - Major General Gennady Ivanovich Kaznakov (1792-1851); mother - Nadezhda Vasilyevna, nee Kulomzina (1800-1853). Brothers: Nicholas (1824-1885), Gennady (1833-1870).

After graduating from the Institute of Railways , in the spring of 1839 he was promoted to ensign. In 1841 he was promoted to military service and entered the service in the 1st District of Railways. In the District Board, he was involved in leveling during the drainage of swamps in St. Petersburg province ; in 1844 he was promoted to captain, in 1846 he was awarded the Order of St. Anne of the 3rd degree.

In 1848-1850 he taught applied mechanics at the St. Petersburg Technological Institute [1] . Since 1850, he was on special assignments at the main manager of communication lines. Having become a lieutenant colonel in 1851, he was appointed head of the Artificial Branch of the Board of the 1st District of Railways. He served on the statistical committee (1853); He was the head of the department of the Department of Artificial Affairs (1856) and the clerk of the "Committee for drawing a general plan of the water and land communications of the empire."

In 1856 he drew up a "Description of the Ladoga Canal , in historical and statistical relations."

In 1858 he was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav of the 2nd degree (1858); since 1860 - colonel. Since 1861, he was in the main department of the Svirsky Canal and a member of the committee for the construction of the Novoladozhsky Canal . In 1864 he was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav of the 2nd degree with the imperial crown, and after the opening of the Novoladozhsky Canal in 1866, for his participation in its construction - the Order of St. Vladimir of the 4th degree, in 1869 - the Order of St. Anna 2- st degree. Valid state adviser since 1870. Participated in the activities of the commission to find the most profitable direction of the Siberian Railway .

In 1871-1877, V. G. Kaznakov was the head of the 1st District of Railways, which was in charge of the Ladoga Canals and the Neva . In 1872 he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 3rd degree, in 1874 - the Order of St. Stanislav of the 1st degree. In the autumn of 1877, he filed a letter of resignation on December 13, the emperor approved the decision: for long-term (38 years and 6 months) and loyal service award V. G. Kaznakov "uniform and pension equal to the full salary for the rank of IV class, and for" strengthening " pensions make him the rank of Privy Councilor. ” Ironically, V. G. Kaznakov died on the same day, December 13, 1877, at 7 pm in a state-owned apartment in St. Petersburg. He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Sari, Novoladozh district [2] .

Wife: daughter of staff captain Lidia Alekseevna Glavatskaya (1831-1909).
