Song History

In each song of the heroic-patriotic direction of the “Memory” cycle, there is a vivid memory of the difficult war years, of the courageous struggle and perseverance of the people’s spirit. And the day of our memory of how we went together to victory, how we fought together, worked together and did not think about awards, titles and glory. Then there was only one goal - to defeat the enemy, return home and raise the country from ruins and ashes. This victory came at an irreplaceable price, obtained by blood and courage, sweat and pain. These days we are returning to the lessons of war. We must remember how it began. It was solidarity that helped defeat fascism. The entire Soviet people, each individual soldier made their significant contribution to the common victory.

The composer's creativity is characterized by vivid melodicism, a combination of national character and modern means of musical expressiveness. Leonid Zakhlevny belongs to a generation of children who have still seen the post-war devastation. They grew up on military songs - soulful, melodic ... And, of course, absorbed the best of them. For the composer, the choice of military subjects was not accidental. Leonid Zakhlevny tells [3] about the history of creating his own, as he believes, best song. It is called the “Memory Field":

“I really believed in myself when in 1980 the cycle of military songs I created,“ Memory, ”was played on May 9 right after the military parade on central television and on the first program of the All-Union Radio. By the way, it was performed by the popular artist Yaroslav Evdokimov. It was for the “military” cycle that I received my first high award - the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Belarus. These songs began to sound constantly at gala state concerts, on radio and television. ”

The joint work of the Belarusian composer and singer brought them well-deserved success, became a landmark in their work and a noticeable phenomenon in the musical art of Belarus. [four]

The singer truthfully and convincingly recreates the atmosphere of the past through the prism of today. When you listen to Yaroslav Evdokimov’s performance, one of the best songs in the “Field of Remembrance” cycle, [4]

“... where, in a recitative-narrative form with a feeling of undercurrent of bitterness and sadness, the soldier’s field of memory is told, it seems that we are not a singer, but a direct participant in the events of those unfading days. It’s as if he is conducting an exciting dialogue with his past, with comrades who have not returned from the battle, to whom they now live on Earth in eternal and unpaid debt. ”

I am now to the end of the road
The memory field does not pass.
Heaven is high above him
The springs beneath him are deep
There is no end to him - the field of memory.

The most organically and significantly creative nature of Y. Evdokimov manifested itself in songs dedicated to the past war. When asked why he chose this topic as one of the main in his work, the artist replies: [4]

“Time moves us farther and farther away from the terrible events of World War II. Every year, the ranks of warriors are thinning. New generations of Soviet people are replacing, who have not experienced the horrors of warfare, who know about the war from the stories and memoirs of their fathers and grandfathers, from books and movies. The songs that I sing are called to bring people the truth about the harsh, tragic time, to awaken feelings of deep gratitude to the glorious defenders of our Motherland ... ”

The creativity of the talented composer was noted by many awards. Leonid Zakhlevny is a laureate of the State Prize of Belarus and the Lenin Komsomol Prize. He was awarded the Alexandrov silver medal and the Order of Francis Skorina. [five]

The work “Field of Memory” passed the severe test of time, forever included in the anthology of masterpieces of songs about the Great Victory. Today, the song is the property of art.
