Lincoln and Lee University

The University originates from the project of creating the University of Lincoln and Lee University ( English Lincoln and Lee University ), behind which stood the Methodist Church and its Bishop Ernest Lynn Waldorf ( en: Ernest Lynn Waldorf ), dating back to the 1920s . The planned university (which was to be named after the leader of the northern states Abraham Lincoln and the military leader of the South, Robert F. Lee ) wanted to build on the border of Missouri and Kansas on the 75th highway, where the Battle of Westport took place (the largest to the west of Mississippi River for the entire Civil War in the United States ). The center of the complex was to become the National Memorial with the graves of an unknown soldier of the Union Army and an unknown soldier of the Confederate Army . These efforts by the methodologists reflected their significant contribution to the development of the Kansas City neighborhood. In 1930 , after the Kansas City Dental School replenished the assets of the Methodists, the two plans were merged. They were going to name the new school Lincoln and Lee, the University of Kansas City ^[3] and make it a four-year future.

The university was built on a plot of 40 square acres. This land was bought and donated by businessman William Volker ( en: William Volker ). At the same time, the estate of Dickey itself was annexed to the territory of the educational institution only after the death of its owner in 1931 .

Both groups quarreled among themselves, while en: Ernest H. Newcomb tried to mediate between them. The church no longer supported its previous endeavors and the names of Lincoln and Lee were abandoned.

It was announced that the school would open if 125 students were recruited. Classes began in October 1933.

The campus is currently expanded to 90 acres and is called Campus Volker . The mansion Dickey Manor is now called Scofield Hall. The second building on campus, the library, was named after Newcomb. There is also a fountain.

The University of Kansas City grew rapidly, and soon absorbed other local private higher education institutions. A law school was founded, located in the center of Kansas City since the 1890s, medical colleges, including pharmaceutical and dental, were united into a single university, followed by the inclusion in the conservatory in 1959. During this period, the university also established an administration school in 1953 year, the school of education in 1954 and the continuing education department in 1958.

University of Missouri at Kansas City

On July 25, 1963, at the urging of a graduate of en: Hilary A. Bush ^[4] , the university became part of the Missouri state university system, and $ 20 million worth of assets, including 23 buildings, were transferred to him. At this point, the larger university already had campuses in several cities, and together with the UKC they formed the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC).

The United University founded the School of Graduate Studies in 1964, and the School of Medicine in 1970. In 1980, a school of nursing was created, then in 1985 a school of life sciences (later renamed the school of biological sciences). In 2001, the School of Computing and Engineering appeared.

In 2012, the university conducted research and surveys to find out if it should regain its old name. The result was negative ^[6] .
