Biography
The son of a soldier. In 1771 he entered the service at the Kolyvano-Resurrection factories in Altai. For five years he was a student first carpenter, then a mechanic, then a mine surveyor . In 1786, the Kolyvan governor G.S. Kachka sent Molchanov to St. Petersburg to study with the Italian architect Antonio Port (according to other sources, to the Imperial Academy of Arts ).
In 1790, Molchanov returned to Barnaul, was promoted to the rank of non-commissioned master-master of class 3 and appointed architect of the Barnaul plant [1] [2] .
He carried out stone construction in Barnaul and other mines and factory towns of Altai. In January 1824 he retired for health reasons and died on August 8 of the same year [1] [2] . He was buried in Barnaul at the Nagorny cemetery (the grave was not preserved).
