Career
Amateur career
Dijkstra grew up in Woodbridge, England . Studied at Osborn Park School . He started playing football as a student at the University of Virginia , where he played on the Rams University team from 2004 to 2008.
During his studies at the University, Dijkstra also spent four seasons at the Richmond Kickers Future Club.
Professional career
In his student days, Dijkstra was not able to draft for any professional club. April 6, 2009 signed a contract with the Chicago Fire Club [3] . The club made its debut on June 30 in the US Open Cup match against Wilmington Hammerheads . By the beginning of the 2010 season , after a change in the coaching staff, Dijkstra became the club's main goalkeeper, displacing rival John Bush [4] . He made his debut in the MLS on March 27, 2010 in the first match of the season against the New York Red Bulls [5] .
On January 31, 2011, Chicago Fire announced that it no longer needed the services of a goalkeeper [6] .
On March 23, 2011, Dijkstra signed a contract with the Charleston Battery club . [7] On August 12, he was recognized as the most valuable player in the final match of the season in recognition of the successful season at the club [8] .
Since January 27, 2012, Dijkstra has been playing for DC United . [9] He made his debut at the club on April 6, 2014 in a match against the New England Revolution [10] . Since signing the contract with the club, Dijkstra has been rented twice - at Charleston Battery and Richmond Kickers . At the end of the 2016 season, DC United did not renew the Dijkstra contract, and the player was put up for draft [11] .
On December 22, 2016, in the second round of the draft MLS returns, Dykstra was chosen by the Sporting Kansas City club [12] . On January 10, 2017, the club entered into a one-year agreement with the goalkeeper with an option to renew for another year [13] . Dijkstra played three matches for the Kansas farm club Swap Park Rangers in the USL before making his debut for Sporting KS himself on October 7, 2017 in a match against Minnesota United , replacing 59 minutes into the game the main guard of the gates of Tim Milia [14] .
On February 8, 2018, Dijkstra was exchanged at Colorado Rapids for the peak of the second round of the MLS 2020 superdraft [15] .
