Vasily Vasilyevich Baran ( ukr. Vasil Vasilovich Baran ), known under the pseudonym "Gefayst" and "Lyupos" ( October 2, 1911 , Pozdomyr - January 15, 1949 , Yastrebichi ) - Ukrainian nationalist, OUN-UPA (major) and OUN Security Service, the head of the OUN in Sokalshchyna, a member of the headquarters of the 2nd military district of the UPA "Bug".

Biography
Born October 2, 1911 in the village of Pozdimir (now Radekhiv district, Lviv region). In the OUN since 1930, the district and local conductor of the eastern part of the Sokal district. He was arrested by the Polish police several times: from July to December 21, 1934, a prisoner of the Birch-Kartuzskaya concentration camp, from June 25, 1936 to February 5, 1937 and from June 1937 to September 1938, under arrest.
From 1939 to 1941, Baran (aka Gefaiste) was the head of the crossing points of the Soviet-German border (after the formation of the Polish Governor-General ), through which Ukrainian nationalists were thrown onto the territory of the USSR. He had a number of informants: for example, agent S.Mudrik worked as an employee at the Radekhovsky military registration and enlistment office and obtained information about the dislocation of the Red Army units, sending it to Gefaista, and he transmitted all information abroad [1] .
After the Germans occupied Ukraine, Baran entered the Sokal district OUN wire and became the organizer of the Ukrainian people's self-defense in Sokalschina. Later, he became the head of the Security Service in the Sokalsky District, conducting special courses for UPA volunteers, in which students were trained to combat Soviet counterintelligence, namely, the recognition of NKVD agents [2] ; further entered the headquarters of the BO-2 "Bug". In 1944, as part of the UPA, he organized a hundred named after Galaida, and in the winter of 1945 he headed the hundred "Tigers". Since 1947, at the special disposal of the OUNA Wire.
On January 15, 1949, in the village of Yastrebichi, a ram of Baran was surrounded by police forces. He himself shot himself.
In 1995, a cross was erected at the place of death.
