Description
The museum was built in 1931 by architect P.J. Husband, near the location of the former royal palace of Denpasar, which was burned to the ground during the Dutch intervention in Bali in 1906. Its external walls and courtyard were taken as a model in the design of the museum.
The museum has 4 main buildings: Tabanan (where theater masks and musical instruments are shown), Karangasem (sculptures and paintings), Buleleng (textiles) and Timur (archaeological finds). It is located on the eastern side of the central quarter of Denpasar, Taman Puputan.
