Biography
He was born on February 8, 1875 in the Siedletsk province. He studied at the University of Warsaw , but was soon expelled and transferred to Yuriev University , which he successfully graduated in 1900 and remained working there as a teacher of botany until 1914. From 1900 to 1903 he participated in expeditions to the Urals , the Caucasus and Armenia. From 1914 to 1919 he worked as a professor of morphology and systematics of plants at Novorossiysk University and director of the botanical garden in Odessa. From 1919 to 1963 he was a professor at the University of Warsaw , at the same time from 1937 to 1963 he was the director of the University Botanical Garden.
He died on February 13, 1963, 5 days after the celebration of his birthday.
Scientific Activities
The main works are devoted to floristry, systematics, botanical geography, and the history of botany.
- 1909 - Studied root reotropism .
- 1914 - Studied the anatomical structure of stomata.
- He studied the flora and vegetation of the Caucasus, Poland and Lithuania.
- Gave a general botanical and geographical characteristics of these regions.
- The author of a number of reviews on the history of botany in Poland.
