Erich Hoffmann ( April 25, 1868 - May 8, 1959 , Bonn , Germany ) is a German dermatologist and syphilidologist.

Biography
Born April 25, 1868. In 1900 he graduated from Berlin University and remained to work there and worked for the rest of his life. At the same time, he served as professor of universities in Halle (1908-59) and Bonis (1910-59).
He died on May 8, 1959 in Bonn.
Scientific work
The main scientific works are devoted to the study of the etiology and pathogenesis of skin diseases.
- 1905 - Together with F.R.Shaudin, he discovered the causative agent of syphilis - a pale spirochete .
- 1919 - Proposed the term " esophylaxis " to define the specific protective function of the skin.
- 1957 - Developed an accelerated method for the diagnosis of syphilis.
- He studied experimental syphilis , previously proposed the treatment of this disease with salvarsan .
