Biography

Rocco Granata was born in Figline Veliaturo in the Calabria region in the province of Cosenza , Italy . When he was 10 years old, he and his parents moved to Belgium. Pomegranate's father was a miner, but Rocco devoted himself to music. Rocco played the accordion and traveled around Belgium with his own orchestra.

In 1959, he released a single with the songs "Manuela" and "Marina" (on opposite sides of the record). Side “B” (song “Marina”) became an international hit, rising to 1 place in Belgium and Germany and getting on the charts in many countries of Europe and the USA. In Germany alone, it was sold in more than a million copies and was marked with a gold disc [2] . Cover versions of Marina were recorded by many musicians around the world, including such as Marino Marini , Ilham Al-Madfay , Delilah and Luis Armstrong .

After the success of Marina, Granata traveled all over the world with concert tours, including in New York at the Carnegie Hall . In 1960, the West German feature film “Marina” was released on the screens of cinemas, in which many Granat's hits, future hits in Germany, were played. In 1961, Pomegranate performed in Italy at the San Remo Festival .

Later, Garnet gained success as a music producer . He owned record labels Cardinal Records and Granata Records , and he produced artists such as Marva, Louis Nefs , Miel Couls and De Elegasten .

In 1989, commissioned by Grenades, the world saw the dance remix of "Marina", which brought this song back to the first place on the Belgian charts, as well as to high places in Italy and Germany.

Grenade is a regular guest on Belgian television. In particular, he was on the jury in the Belgian national selection for the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest . In March 2002, the Pomegranate was awarded the ZAMU Lifetime Achievement Award (Belgian music industry award for life achievements).

Over his career, Pomegranate has released over 65 albums.

In 2013, another film was dedicated to his youth under the title “Marina” [3] .
