Biography

Born November 29, 1895 in Vologda.

In 1922 he graduated from the 1st Leningrad Medical Institute .

From 1932 to 1951 he held the post of head of the Department of Physiology of the Leningrad Medical Pediatric Institute .

From 1951 to 1955, he served as the head of the Department of Physiology of the Novosibirsk Medical Institute .

From 1955 to 1962 he worked at the Institute of Evolutionary Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (from 1958 to 1960 he held the post of director of this institute).

He died on October 28, 1962 in Leningrad.

Scientific work

The main scientific studies are devoted to the physiology of the autonomic nervous system and the mechanism of regulation of water-salt metabolism.

  • He established that a tired skeletal muscle restores its working capacity upon irritation of its sympathetic nerve ( Orbeli-Ginetsinsky phenomenon ).
  • Revealed the main patterns of evolution of the neuromuscular junction.

He is the author of over 115 scientific works, including 2 monographs devoted mainly to the physiology of the neuromuscular system, respiration and kidneys.
