Perikoli's success was closely linked to the San Remo festival. He recorded a cover version of the song "Al Di Là", Betty Curtis was a performer at the festival. The song was an international success. More than one million copies were sold, a gold disc was released. In 1962, Perikoli introduced himself at the festival. Together with composer Tony Renis he sang a ballad, "Quando, Quando, Quando", which later became one of the most famous Italian songs.
In 1963, he won the San Remo Festival (along with Tony Renis, since then at this festival the song was presented first by one performer, and then in the final by another) and in the same year presented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest .
