Biography
He received a bachelor's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1956. He defended his Ph.D. dissertation at Stanford University in 1959. His studies of hadrons contributed to the classification of quarks as elementary particles and the development of the theory of quantum chromodynamics .
He is a member of the US National Academy of Sciences [2] and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2006) and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences [3] .
Awards, Prizes
The awards include: Danny Heinemann Prize in Mathematical Physics (1972) [4] , Ernest Lawrence Prize (1977), I. Ya. Pomeranchuk Prize (2000), Dirac Medal (2004), Wolf Prize (2015), Prize in particle physics and high energy physics (2015), Robert Wilson Prize (2017).
