History
The national park was created in 1989 .
Description
The national park is located in eastern Victoria. In one of the narrow sections, the park is crossed by the B500 Great Alpine Road tourist road, between Dinner Plain and Harristville . In the northeast it is limited by the state administrative border and borders on the Kosciuszko National Park. The park covers most of the highest points of the Great Dividing Range in Victoria. Here are located the highest point of the state - Mount Bogong (1 986 m) and the highland plain of Bogong .
In summer, the park is a popular place for hiking, off-road cycling and driving ( off-road ), fishing, and hunting in winter. Most of the park in winter is difficult to access due to heavy snowfalls. Mount Hotham and Falls Creek are ski resorts adjacent to the park, access to which is only possible in winter on skis across the Bogong Plain.
Nature
The vegetation of the highland plain of Bogong is represented by subalpine forests and meadows. Higher below are tropical forests, which sometimes mix with eucalyptus forests.
