Berwiller ( French Berrwiller ) is a commune in the northeast of France in the Grand Est region ^[1] (former Alsace - Champagne - Ardennes - Lorraine ), department of the Upper Rhine , Mulhouse district , canton of Wittenheim ^[2] . Until March 2015, the commune was administratively part of the abolished canton of Sulz-O-Ren ( Gebwiller County).

The area of the commune is 7.66 km², the population is 1106 people ^[3] ^[4] (2006) with a pronounced upward trend: 1174 people ^[5] (2012), the population density is 153.3 people / km².

Economics

In 2010, out of 799 people of working age (from 15 to 64 years), 589 were economically active , 210 inactive (activity indicator 73.7%, in 1999 - 73.0%). Of the 589 active able-bodied residents, 563 people worked (299 men and 264 women), 26 were unemployed (10 men and 16 women). Among 210 able-bodied inactive citizens, 89 were pupils or students , 81 were pensioners , and another 40 were inactive due to other reasons ^[8] ^[9] .

Throughout 2011, there were 455 taxable households in the commune , in which 1,195 people lived. The median income was 24,169 euros per taxpayer ^[10] .
