Biography
Lutsenko Anatoly Ivanovich was born on August 10, 1934 in Baku in the family of a military soldier - Lutsenko Ivan Stepanovich and hereditary Don Cossack - Lutsenko (Gorbunkova) Tatyana Vasilievna, a native of the Maly Ternova farm in the Chernyshevsky district of the Volgograd region.
The childhood of the future artist was in great need, due to the illiteracy of the mother (she graduated from the 2nd grade of the parish school), difficult moral relations between the parents (they broke up when Anatoly was 12 years old). The passion for drawing showed up early, at 3-4 years old the child was already trying to paint any piece of white paper that fell into his hands.
The categorical prohibitions of his father did not prevent Anatoly at the age of 15 from making a decision to study drawing. In 1949, he entered the Rostov Art College , graduated in 1954. Over the years of study and many more years later, his teacher and friend was the talented painter Mikhail Pavlovich Mikhailov, whose high skill, crystal-clear human qualities, had a beneficial effect on Anatolia and strengthened his decision to become a painter.
All subsequent life of the artist was inextricably linked with his work.
Creativity
Graduation sketch made in the school on the theme "K.E. Voroshilov on the restoration of the bridge over the Don River", received the mark "excellent". This served as the basis for sending A. Lutsenko, among the other ten graduates of the school, to continue special education at the Moscow Art Institute (now the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov ). He entered there in 1954 and graduated from the institute in 1960 (workshop of the USSR State Prize winner, Professor Maksimov Konstantin Mifodevich twice ).
The thesis presented by A. I. Lutsenko after graduating from the Institute “On the Don” (rating - “excellent”), was highly appreciated by the president of the USSR Academy of Arts B. Johanson .
“Noteworthy is the picture of a graduate of the Institute. V.I Surikova A. Lutsenko - “On the Don”. This is a talented painter. His picture stops the viewer. The artist chose a seemingly ordinary, everyday occurrence, depicting passengers talking on the deck of the ship. But here you can see the author’s desire to characterize the characters, to convey the general cheerful mood. Good painting facilities. The light was transmitted successfully, there is a lot of sun in the picture. ”
- B.V. Johanson, the magazine "Art", 1961. No. 2. p. 75-83
Without exaggeration, such words can be attributed to most of the subsequent paintings by A. Lutsenko, who was rightly considered among the contemporaries who knew him as a master and singer of the sun and life.
The beginning of a creative biography is 1951. The first sketches of A. Lutsenko were exhibited at the exhibition of works by young artists of the Rostov Art College, dedicated to the theme “Struggle for world peace” (newspaper “Hammer”, Rostov-on-Don, September 28, 1951, No. 229 (8771) ) In 1952, a series of Don landscapes by A. Lutsenko (Molot newspaper, Rostov-on-Don, December 13, 1952.- No. 293 (9141)) was presented at the republican exhibition of works by students of art schools of the Russian Federation in Moscow.
In 1956, at the exhibition of student work carried out during academic practice in the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky, Yaroslavl Region, the works of A. Lutsenko, a 2nd year student of the painting department of the Moscow Institute named after V. I. Surikov (“Fishermen”, “Landscape”, "Etudes").
At the regional art exhibition of the Rostov Union of Artists in Rostov-on-Don in 1957, 2 of his works were exhibited: sketches - “Girl” and “Yard”. Since 1958, A. Lutsenko was a regular participant in the All-Union, Republican, zonal, regional, Moscow exhibitions. Since 1963 he moved to live in Moscow and was elected a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and a member of the Moscow Union of Artists . The active exhibition period includes participation in 14 exhibitions, at which 23 paintings and a series of watercolors by A. Lutsenko were presented. However, he was actually interrupted in 1986 due to a serious illness and employment by performing custom work at the Art Fund of Moscow. As a member of the fund, A. Lutsenko created a large number of genre paintings, some of which were awarded with Honorary Diplomas ("Portrait of Marx"). Therefore, so far only a minimal part of A.I. Lutsenko’s creative heritage has been exhibited, which includes about 150 paintings and graphic works (portraits, still lifes, landscapes, watercolors, drawings).
Researcher of the Rostov Museum of Fine Arts E. Lukyanova described A. Lutsenko’s work in this way:
“... the artist loves the Don summer with the sun, grasses and the river, the fields stretching to the horizon. His characters live freely in the landscape. Sympathies of the painter, his favorite circle of topics are simple workers of the Don. Milkmaids in the picture of the same name are depicted on a Don shore on a sunny day. The picture is permeated with light, full of movement. The Don’s waves are silvery, the wind stirs the white robes of milkmaids ”...“ Love for the native land and its people captivates in many of the artist’s canvases. Here is a young Cossack woman (the picture "In the Village") stands at Don with buckets on the yoke. A rocket sweeps past the sunny river. You can consider these paintings for a long time, in which the freshness of the painting attracts. Deep psychological problems are solved by the artist in paintings - portraits. Here is a participant in the civil war P.D. Kultushin - an elderly person stands perfectly calm, naturally. He, the collective farm groom, seems to be merged together with the autumn landscape. An interesting graphic technique chosen by the artist, the so-called "ink with washing," a capricious technique that requires great accuracy. For the first time, the graphic series “Workers of the Don” was exhibited at the exhibition “Native Don”. All five works (“Rostov Bazaar”, “On the Current”, “Fishermen”, “Ear”, “Lunch”) are of a genre character. The figures are voluminous, modeled by chiaroscuro. The white surface of the sheet is well used. In the work “On the Current”, three female figures are so well connected with it that the paper itself is perceived as a pile of light loose grain. ”
- E. Lukyanova, the newspaper "Hammer", Rostov-on-Don, October 15, 1964, No. 243 (12773)
Bright and sunny, like the Don nature itself, paintings, landscapes: “Don roll”, “Discord Hills”, “Terrace illuminated by the sun”. Numerous sketches are devoted to the fabulously beautiful places of the village of Razdorskaya - the reserved village of the Don Cossacks, which the artist chose as his second permanent residence. This picturesque corner of our homeland, drunk with warmth and sun, with its inhabitants - simple, hardworking people, served as an inexhaustible source not only for sketches, but also serious works, executed carefully with high skill.
Among them, it is worth noting a new thematic solution to the same eternal theme "On the Don" - a painting by A. Lutsenko, on which he worked for at least three years (1993-1995). In this picture, which the author himself considered a program work, not only Don nature is beautiful, but the triumph of youth, a new, bright morning, is affirmed, as the apotheosis of the artist’s faith in the victory of life. It was not a simple fall in love with the surrounding reality, but a philosophical perception of its complex contradictions (“bulls” and “people”) was expressed. A. Lutsenko brilliantly managed to express a serious attitude to life and work in self-portraits (1978, 1985, 1986) [1] .
The collective image of a harmonious man, to whom unity with nature gives spiritual beauty, is seen in a number of female portraits (“Don morning”, group portrait, “Woman portrait with apples”, “Woman portrait against the background of sunflowers”, “Woman portrait”). Portraits of his son (1981, 1984) were highly artistically executed, sketches: “Girl, lit by the sun”, “Boy, lit by the sun”.
The painter’s skill is especially captivating in the still lifes in which the author’s favorite flowers (Lilac and Tulips, Peonies with Calendula, Lilac with Lilies of the Valley), and other gifts of nature (Still Life with Apples and Grapes, Still Life) captivate with Don fishes ”,“ Still Life with Eggplant ”,“ Still Life with Don Fish and Vegetables ”, Autumn Still Life”) [2] .
A whole series of paintings - landscapes is dedicated to the Pskov-Pechora Monastery ("Autumn at the Pskov-Pechora Monastery", "Belfry of the Pskov-Pechora Monastery", "St. Nicholas Church of the Pskov-Pechora Monastery"). These works create reassurance, evoke a quiet sadness over the passing life, at the same time they speak of its passing lordship, which was associated with the autumn period of nature, colorfully elegant.
Vivid and colorful are numerous watercolors dedicated to the nature of the Volga and Don rivers, the homeland of Leo Tolstoy - Yasnaya Polyana. The artist’s drawings are accurate and diverse.
Many of his works to this day delight the viewer in the museums of our country and abroad. They are also in private collections. As an example, one of the works was transferred to the famous surgeon Michael E. Debeika during his meeting with academician Petrovsky B.V.
As a young and aspiring painter, in 1960 A. Lutsenko gave an interview at the club of interesting meetings. Even then, he clearly imagined that his life would be dedicated to serving people:
“... to builders with whose hands new cities and towns are being built; to a man whose work is so noble and magnificent ... "" I know that it will take a lot of time and labor to accomplish what has been planned. You need to learn how to work the way my heroes are contemporaries, for whom the most important thing is the good of their country. And I'm ready for this. ”
- A. Lutsenko, the newspaper "Komsomolets", an organ of the Rostov regional committee and city committee of the Komsomol, October 2, 1960
Personal life

- Son Lutsenko Victor Anatolyevich, (born 1960, Penza )
- Son Lutsenko Ivan Anatolyevich, (born 1974, Moscow )
Sickness and death
A.I. Lutsenko suffered the first myocardial infarction in 1981. Against the background of it, diabetes developed and eyesight began to deteriorate. After some time, one eye almost did not see what was a heavy blow for the artist. In the mid-90s, leg problems started against a background of diabetes mellitus and a shunt was performed at the Academician B.V. Petrovsky Russian Scientific Center for Surgery .
In 1997 health began to deteriorate, a second heart attack was suffered, and on February 22, 1998, at the age of 64, the artist Lutsenko Anatoly Ivanovich died.
He was buried in his will in the village of Razdorskaya [3]
