Biography
Training
The daughter of a journalist from the Financial Times and an opera singer, she has been dancing since three years. From childhood, participated and won in numerous competitions of young talents.
During college, she was forced to interrupt her classical dance classes, but after graduating from high school she began her career as a dancer in the famous London troupe Tiller Girls . Later she worked in the Bluebell Girls troupe, in the Paris variety show Lido, and became the prima of the Argentinean company Alaria Ballet .
Theater and Cinema
In 1961, Gloria Paul ended up in Rome with a tour of Alaria Ballet . This trip launched her career in cinema (more than 20 films in total), which eventually led her to the status of an Italian comedy star.
With undoubted charm and charm, Gloria Paul embodied the popular comedic character of an inaccessible beauty. She worked on the same platform with the most venerable comedians of her time: Hugo Tonyazzi, Raimodo Vianello, Toto (in Totò, Peppino e ... la dolce vita - 1961 and in the television movie Don Giovannino - 1967 ), with Walter Chiari, Lando Lando Butzanka. She worked especially hard with the Sicilian duo Franco and Ciccio, appearing with them in several films: I due evasi di Sing Sing ( 1964 ), Due mafiosi contro Goldginger ( 1965 ) and I due figli di Ringo ( 1966 ), where she also performed dance numbers.
Gloria Paul also earned universal acclaim, working on the stage with such masters of musical comedy as Renato Russell ( Enrico '61 ), Walter Chiari ( Buonanotte Bettina ), Erminio Macario ( Le sei mogli di Erminio V111 ), Aldo Fabrizi ( Baci, promesse , lusinghe d'amore ).
In 1965, Gloria Paul, fluent in two languages, tried to achieve wider success on the international screen. Returning to England, she starred in the comedy The Intelligence Men with two famous British comedians Eric Korkambe and Ernie Weiss, appeared in two episodes of the famous Benny Hill Show and auditioned for the role of Domino in another film about the adventures of James Bond, Ball Lightning ( 1965 ) [3 ] , however, Claude Auger lost this role. In the same year, Gloria Paul managed to take a kind of “revenge”, starring in an Italian parody of “Bond” under the name Two Mafiosi against Goldfinger (1965), with a duet Franco and Ciccio (1965).
The second attempt to break into the world screen, Gloria Paul made in 1970, after casting for the film by the famous director Blake Edwards ( Pink Panther , Breakfast at Tiffany's ), Dear Lily , for the role of Craix Susette. In the title role, Lily was taken by Julie Andrews , and Rock Hudson became her partner. It is interesting that for the Italian hire the name of the painting was changed to Operazione Crêpes Suzette , thus highlighting the heroine of Gloria Paul, in one of the scenes of a dancing striptease. Despite all efforts, the film at the box office failed.
The actress had to console herself with popularity on Italian television, thanks to her participation in a number of programs, such as the television show Senza Rete (1976).
In 1971, Gloria Paul was engaged in the usual role of a sub-portrait, at the Verdi Theater ( Trieste ), in the role of Bessie Worthington in the operetta Flower of Hawaii by Paul Abraham.
Since the late 1970s, its appearance on the big screen has been happening less and less, but it has not completely stopped. He regularly works with the Sicilian comedian Franchi: a mini-series on TV Un uomo da ridere ( 1980 ), the last film with his participation Tango blu ( 1989 ). The last works of Gloria Paul are in the comedy film Neri Parenti Fratelli d'Italia (1989) and in the multi-genre film anthology Esercizi di stile (1996).
Accident
In 1996, there was an accident with Gloria Paul, which she later spoke about in the television program Maurizio Costanzo Show . When she was taking a shower in her house in Rome, the ceiling collapsed and beams and a heavy cauldron fell on her. [4] The actress received severe spinal injuries and fractures of both legs. After a long period of treatment and recovery, she remained paralyzed below the waist and is currently moving in a wheelchair.
Later, she appeared as a guest on several television shows, showing courage and the will to live: in Maurizio Costanzo Show and Conversando (with Maurizio Costanzo), Ci vediamo in TV (with Paolo Limiti), Novecento (with Pippo Baudo), Domenica In ( with Mara Venier), again Domenica In (with Pippo Baudo), Cominciamo bene (with Pinot Strabioli), Porta a porta (with Bruno Vespa), and in October 2008, the transfer of I migliori anni with presenter Carlo Conti .
