Kholkhlovo

Holkhlovo ( Belorussian. Hohlava ) is an agricultural town in the Molodechno district of the Minsk region . It is the administrative center of the Kholkhlovsky village council , located in the western part of the Minsk region . The population of 414 people (2009) [2] .

Geography

Kholkhlovo is located 17 km southwest of Molodechno and 52 km northwest of Minsk . The roads H9091 (Kholkhlovo - Molodechno) and H9092 (Kholkhlovo - Volozhin ) pass through Kholkhlovo. Other local roads lead to the surrounding villages. The area belongs to the Neman’s Berezina basin, several streams flowing into the Berezina flow through the agro-town, and the river itself flows 5 km to the north. The nearest railway station is 10 km north in Polochany (railway line Molodechno - Lida ).

History

The first written mention of Kholkhlovo dates from 1437. In the middle of the 16th century, one of his books was published by Simon Budny in the local printing house. According to the administrative-territorial reform of the mid-16th century, in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Kholkhlovo became part of the Minsk Povet of the Minsk Voivodeship [3] .

In 1738, a wooden Catholic church of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built here, preserved to this day [4] . Since 1780, the place was in the possession of the Galim.

As a result of the second division of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (1793), Kholkhlovo became part of the Russian Empire; in Vileika county . At the beginning of the XIX century, the settlement passed into the possession of the Karnitsky, and in the middle of the XIX century - the Yazvinsky. In 1847, Vincent Yazvinsky built a family chapel-tomb (preserved). After the suppression of the 1863 uprising, the Catholic church was converted into an Orthodox church [4] .

As a result of the Riga Peace Treaty of 1921, Kholkhlovo became part of interwar Poland , where it was part of the Molodechensky Povet of the Vilnius Voivodeship [3] . The Church of the Virgin Mary of 1738 was returned to the Catholics and restored.

Since 1939, in the BSSR, where on October 12, 1940 it became the center of the village council [3] . Wooden Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Virgin XVIII-XIX centuries. was destroyed in the 1960s [5] . The Catholic temple was also closed, but the building was preserved and used as a warehouse. The venerated icon of the Mother of God in 1963 was transferred to the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus . In the 1990s, the temple was returned to the Catholics and restored [4] .
