They live in the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean . They are found at a depth of up to 534 m. TaxonomyThe species was first scientifically described in 1981 as Springeria stenosoma [4] . The species epithet comes from the words Greek. στενός - “narrow” and Greek. σῶμα is the “body”. Perhaps this is a synonym for one of the described species of non-spawning rays [2] .
RangeThese deep-sea ramps live in the South China Sea off the coast of China . They are found at a depth of 534 m. [2] [3] .
DescriptionThe broad and flat pectoral fins of these rays form a rounded disc. The protruding snout turns into a filiform outgrowth. The skin is devoid of scales. Dorsal fins absent. On the ventral side of the disc are 5 gill slits, nostrils and mouth. The thin tail is shorter than the disk [1] [5] .
Human InteractionThese ramps are not the target fishing target. They may be caught as by-catch in deep-sea trawling. The data for the assessment of the conservation status of the species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature are insufficient [2] .
