Biography
He graduated from Jerome College in Vesoul , and in 1835 he left to continue his studies in Paris. In 1845, he was invited by Emil Girarden to collaborate in Presse. Here he quickly gained fame, thanks to which General Montolon often brought Chode notes about his stay on the island of St. Helena, which Girardin subsequently released in 2 volumes. Montolon gave Chode the original draft constitution drawn up by Napoleon on St. Helena for one of his descendants who would ever ascend the French throne. This project was published by Chodet, entitled: "Id ées de Napoléon en matiè re de constitution". In addition, Chode issued many separate brochures. In the 1840s he published: “L'Appr éciation historique, littéraire et politique de l'Histoire de dix ans de Louis Blanc”; "Un conservateur", which caused a heated debate; “La crise politique” and “De la formation d'une v é ritable opposition coustitutionelle”. Anticipating that the Socialists will prevail over the Republicans, Chode published the pamphlet De l 'établissement de la République, lettre d'un républicain du lendemain à un ré publicain de la veille ". Then, taking an active part in the presidential election, Chode vainly supported the candidacy of Caveniac against Louis Napoleon. After the election of Louis Napoleon, Chode left Paris and retired to the province. Here he quickly became a well-known lawyer in Vesoul and became one of the most important representatives of democracy in his department when the December 2 coup forced him to retire to Switzerland .
In 1856 he returned to Paris, where he gained a reputation as an excellent criminalist. In 1860, due to the general amnesty announced by Napoleon on the occasion of the Austro-Italian-French war , Chode returned to journalism and spoke again at the Courrier du Dimanche. Here he pointed out that the success of government foreign policy is misleading. When Co u rrier du Dimanche changed direction, Chode began to collaborate in the Association and Si è cle. In the last years of the second empire, he joined the republican opposition. In 1870, Chode published his pamphlet: “L'Empire parlementaire est-il possible?” After the September 4, 1870 coup, he became a member of the Judicial Reform Commission, then mayor of the 9th arrondissement, and shortly thereafter as assistant mayor in Paris. On January 22, 1871, Chode, as a representative of the municipal government, received deputies at the town hall who complained about the government and the municipality. At this time, several shots were fired at the town hall, the mobile guard responded in the same way and killed several people. The communists accused Chode of ordering people to be shot; despite his non-involvement in this case, Chode was arrested and soon shot.
