An annual herbaceous plant. Stem up to 75 cm tall, rarely pubescent. The leaves are rounded, at the base are heart-shaped, 10-80 x 10-100 (120) mm. Petals 2.5-5 mm, oblong-obovate, white, pink at the tips. The fruit is a polysperm, with a diameter of (3) 5-6 mm. Seeds 1 mm wide and long, brown, black, bare. It blooms from March to July.
The natural range includes the territory of Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia), Asia (Kuwait, Afghanistan, Cyprus, Egypt - Sinai, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Turkmenistan), the Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan) , Europe (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Malta, France, Portugal, Gibraltar, Spain [incl. Balearic islands]). It grows from 0 to 900 m above sea level.
It is cultivated in other regions of the world with a temperate climate. A medicinal plant, infusion, broth or poultice is used as a laxative. Flowers are used as a diaphoretic infusion.
