History
Beginning of existence
The 1st Mountain Artillery Regiment was formed on November 1, 1877 on the basis of two brigades taken from the 14th and 16th regiments. On October 1, 1909 , the 2nd Regiment was created from the five batteries of the regiment, and thus the existing regiment was named the 1st. The commander was Major Pietro Lanfranco. He participated in the Italo-Turkish war , fighting in Libya with the groups Susa, Aosta, Pinerolo and Mondovi. In 1935 he was included in the 1st Alpine Division Taurinense with the Suza group, and together with the 5th Alpine Division Pusteria he participated in the war in Ethiopia. With the artillery groups "Susa" and "Aosta" participated in the April war and later fought against the Yugoslav partisans in Montenegro.
In October 1943, after a truce with the Allies and the subsequent surrender of Italy, the regiment ceased to exist: the Aosta group was completely killed, the rest of the other groups went to the partisans. A significant part of the regiment's personnel served in the Garibaldi Yugoslav partisan division until November 1944, which was awarded several times by the Italian medal For Military Valor.
