History
On November 24, 1960, Pope John XXIII issued the Venerabilium Nostroum log, which he founded the three new metropolises of Hanoi, Hue and Saigon. In the same year, the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Vietnam was created, which brought together the Catholic hierarchs of South Vietnam. After the unification of the country in 1975, the hierarchies of North Vietnam joined the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Vietnam. In early 1980, a preparatory conference was held in Hanoi to unite Vietnamese bishops into a single organization. From May 24 to June 1, 1980, all the Catholic bishops of Vietnam gathered in Hanoi, who adopted the new charter of the organization during the conference. On July 6, 1980, Pope John Paul II approved the charter of this joint conference.
