Vasily (Vaso) Yakovlevich Egnatashvili ( 1888 , Gori , Tiflis province - after 1953) - Georgian Soviet statesman, secretary of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Georgian SSR (1938-1953).

Biography
Representative of the princely family Egnatashvili. The son of a prosperous capitalist. At first he studied at a prestigious Moscow gymnasium. He received higher education at the universities of Kiev , Kharkov and Tiflis .
From youth, he participated in revolutionary activities. In 1913 he was arrested and sentenced to administrative expulsion to Kiev . Later he worked as a teacher of literature.
Stalin maintained contact with the Egnatashvili family, while still a Georgian revolutionary. Even after the October Revolution, the family flourished. During the NEP, they became successful entrepreneurs, owners of a network of eateries and restaurants in Baku and Tiflis . In the late 1920s, Vaso and his brother Alexander lost their business and were arrested. But Vaso managed to convince local officials that he needed to talk with Stalin in Moscow, and headed for the capital (his brother continued to be in prison at that time). Thanks to the mediation of Abel Enukidze, he was received by Stalin, who immediately ordered the release of both brothers and send them to Moscow [1] .
Later he worked as an editor-consultant of the State Publishing House of the Georgian SSR.
In 1937 he joined the ranks of the CPSU (b) .
In 1937-1938 he was deputy chief editor of the newspaper "Communist".
On July 8, 1938 he was appointed secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Georgian SSR . Until April 15, 1953 - Secretary of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Georgian SSR.
He was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Georgian SSR of the 1st and 2nd convocations.
After the death of Stalin in May 1953 he was arrested, but two months later - released. Then he worked as a director of the Georgian Literature Research Institute.
