Description
Small ants , body length about 3 mm. It differs from other African species of the genus in its large size (head width HW 0.78–0.98 mm, PW 0.54–0.68 mm) and numerous scale-like hairs covering the head, chest, and abdomen. The main body color is brownish-black. Propodeum angular, but without apparent spines. The eyes are small (less than 15 ommatidia). The head has deep antennae grooves that completely accommodate antennas. The antennae of females and workers are 12-segmented with a mace of 3 apical segments (in males the antennae are 12-segmented, but without the mace). Maxillary palpi 2-segmented, mandibular palpi of 2 segments. Clypeus wide with bilobate protrusion (clip fork). The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two segments: the petiolus and the postpetiolus (the latter is clearly separated from the abdomen), the sting is developed, the pupae are bare (without cocoon). Petiole, post-petiol and abdomen punctured. The species was first described in 1914 by the Swiss myrmecologist Felix Sanchi ( Felix Santschi , 1872-1940) according to type materials from Cameroon, and its valid status was confirmed during the audit in 1981 by the English myrmecologist Barry Bolton ( B.Bolton , British Museum). ) , London , UK ) [1] [2] .
