Wincenz, Carol

Carol Wincenz ( born Carol Wincenc ; born June 29, 1949 , Buffalo ) is an American flutist .

From four years old, she studied violin with her father. At nine, she switched to flute. She studied at various conservatories in the United States, as well as in Italy with Severino Gazzeloni . She graduated from the Juilliard School in 1972. In 1978 , she won the Naumburg Competition for Young Musicians in that single year, when the competition was held among flute players. Since 1988 he has been teaching at the Juilliard School.

Carol Wincenz’s repertoire is dominated by contemporary composers, starting with Samuel Barber . She performed world premieres of concerts for flute and orchestra by Lucas Foss (1986) and Christopher Rose (1994), the Cantata Concert Henrik Guretsky (1992) and other compositions. In addition to collaboration with leading world orchestras, Vincenz plays a lot in the ensemble, including as part of the New York Woodwind Quintet.

Carol Wincentz founded the St. Paul Flute Music Festival and is its artistic director.

In 2010, Vincenz celebrated the 40th anniversary of her concert activity with a concert at the Juilliard School, in the final of which she was accompanied by an ensemble of 40 flutists [1] .
