Biography
Marco Uchellini was born in Forlimpopoli (probably between 1603 and 1610). Documents about the life of the composer remained a bit. He studied at the seminary of Assisi singing and violin playing by Giovanni Battista Buonamente.
In 1641–1662, Marco Uchellini served as Capo degl`instrumentisti at the ducal court in Modena , served as maestro di cappella (first as conductor of the orchestra, and then as choirmaster [1] ) of Modena Cathedral from 1647 to 1665. He dedicated two of his collections of works to Duke Francesco I d'Este (books II and III, created in 1642 and in 1645, respectively).
Subsequently, Marco Uchellini served at the invitation of the daughter of Francesco I, Isabella d'Este , maestro di cappella at the court of Duke Farnese in Parma - possibly until his death. Isabella d'Este and Uchchelini met when he worked for her father. She had friendly relations with the composer. The Duchess married Rannuccio II Farnese , Duke of Parma, an ardent connoisseur of the theater.

Two different styles converge in the composer's work: free fantasies for solo instruments and popular violin music, which is closely related to folk dance. In addition to using the dance rhythms of Italy, Uchchelini inserted dances of French origin into his works. He also used the rare tonality for his time in B-flat minor and E-flat minor , often using tremolo in his works [2] . His violin sonatas are usually three-part.
The composer owned operas and ballets, but they were not preserved. The names of these works are known:
- Le navi d'Enea ; libretto by Alessandro Guidi; opera ballet presented for the first time in 1673 in Parma
- Gli eventi di Filandro ad Edessa ; Opera, presented for the first time in 1675 in Parma
- Ermengarda invincibile ; opera, presented for the first time in 1675 in Parma [3]
- Il Giove d'Elide fulminato ; Ballet , 1677, Parma
Uchellini was considered one of the best violin virtuosos of his time. His play influenced the style of composition and performing skills of I. Schmelzer, G. Bieber , I. Walter, Italian violinists and composers of the XVII-XVIII centuries. Only a part of the composer’s instrumental heritage survived, most of these works were written between 1639 and 1669. [4] His most significant compositions are violin sonatas. They are rarely performed. The most frequently performed work in our time is the small Aria sopra la Bergamesca .
