Secret window

The writer Mort Rainey lives in a house on the beach. More recently, he had a wife and a career as a writer, now he meets with his wife only to once again refuse to sign the divorce documents. With the work of Morta is also not very smooth, he begins to write and immediately erases the writing. All the days away Mort only sleeps or looks at the computer screen. But in this measured, dreary life of his, a strange man in a black hat appears. Calling himself a Cockney Shooter (John Shooter is the original character name), he accuses Raine of plagiarism . Mort is trying to remember how he wrote a story called Shooter, whether he could really take someone else's idea. Finding out all the facts, Rainy learns that the Shooter wrote his story two years after the Rainy story was published in the magazine. Mort need only find a copy of the magazine, and the shooter will leave. But until then, a strange man in a black hat will pursue the writer and his wife. The seriousness of intentions Shooter no doubt, he kills the dog Morte and sets fire to the house in which the wife of Rainey lives with her lover. Mort hires private detective Ken Karsh to catch a shooter. A few days later, the Shooter kills Karsh and the only person (not counting Mort) who saw the Shooter, the old trucker Tom. Mort is terrified, but Shooter is adamant, he is outraged that his story was not just stolen, but also changed the ending in it, but she’s much better published: the shooter’s main character kills his wife. In the end, Mort Rainey receives a journal in the mail, but the pages on which the story is written are torn out. Rainey does not understand who could have done it, because apart from himself no one touched the envelope with the magazine. Rainey looks at the hat lying on the table and remembers that she was once bought by him. So, there is no Shooter. The riddle is solved. Mort puts on his hat, and at that moment his wife arrives with divorce documents, and her lover comes after her. They both become the last victims of Mort Rainey. The story is "rewritten" as wanted Shooter.

John Turturro , who played the role of Cockney Shooter, decided to take part in the film because of his son, who was passionately fond of the works of Stephen King. One of the roles claimed Ving Reims , but because of the non-coincident shooting schedule, he refused to participate in the film.

Filming took place in several cities of Quebec in Canada, as well as in New York, they began on July 14, 2003, and ended in October. In the scene when the hero Johnny Depp bursts into the hotel room (at the very beginning of the film), the actors' faces look really scared. This effect was achieved directorial ploy, which was that the actors Maria Bello and Timothy Hutton , on the instructions of the director, lay in bed for about 15 minutes, and the appearance of the hero Johnny Depp was really unexpected.

In the original at King Mort Raney died, and his wife and her lover survived. Also in the original, Mort Rhiney had a cat, not a dog.

The premiere of the film was postponed for about a month with the goal of successfully rolling another film with Johnny Depp: " Pirates of the Caribbean ".

For his role in the movie "Secret Window," John Turturro was nominated for the Saturn film award as the best supporting actor.
