Biography

Victor Petrovich Varlamov was born in a working class family in Baku. He received an incomplete secondary education, worked as a mechanic at a factory.

With the outbreak of World War II, he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army .

By order of the 969 rifle regiment of May 22, 1944, the Red Army Varlamov was awarded the medal “For Courage” , for courage and heroism in battles with the Nazi invaders since July 1941 and for the three wounds received in battles.

In the battles to enter the line of the USSR State Border crossing the Western Bug River, mortar gunner Junior Sergeant Varalamov scattered and partially destroyed a group of 12 enemy soldiers with well-aimed mortar fire. Fire mortar suppressed the fire of the rifle squad of the enemy. When crossing the river under enemy fire, several times crossed the river, delivering ammunition and weapons. By order of the 273rd Infantry Division of August 16, 1944, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.

In the battles at the Sandomierz bridgehead (south of Sandomierz ) on September 14-15, 1944, Junior Sergeant Varlamov scattered a group of enemy soldiers with well-aimed fire and crushed one machine-gun point. Under enemy fire, he evacuated through Wisla the wounded division commander, Major General Potocki. By order of the 3rd Guards Army of October 11, 1944, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.

In the battles to destroy the encircled enemy group in the Breslau ( Wroclaw ) area on February 23-24, 1945, Senior Sergeant Varlamov was at the observation post in infantry combat formations. Having discovered an easel machine gun and a group of 20 enemy soldiers, he quickly prepared a calculation and transmitted the target designation to his calculation. The group was dispersed by mortar fire, the easel machine gun was destroyed along with the crew. In the battle of February 25, Varlamov put down 2 machine-gun points and the enemy mortar battery with mortar fire, and destroyed the enemy sniper from personal weapons. He was presented for awarding the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree . By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 10, 1945, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.

In 1945, the foreman Varlamov was demobilized. He returned to Baku, worked as an electrician in a factory. In 1952 he graduated from the Electromechanical College. Since 1953 he lived in the village of Black Sea, Krasnodar Territory . He worked as a standardization engineer in the repair and mechanical association Krasnodarneftegaz.

He died on December 26, 1961 .
