Biography
Vasily Glinka was born on August 3, 1790 in the family of a major of the Russian Imperial Army [1] .
Educated at the Imperial Academy of Arts , where he entered in 1798; received here in 1807, 1808 and 1810. three second silver medals, in 1810 the first silver medal and in 1812 - a large gold medal for working for a given program (βa plan for public entertainment of the inhabitants of the capital city β). In the same year he was issued with a certificate of the 1st degree and a sword and was left at the Academy as a pensioner [1] .
In 1817, Vasily Alekseevich Glinka as a pensioner at the Academy of Arts was sent to Italy . According to the recall of the president of the Academy (1819), his reports from there were β careful, his conclusions were solid, not harsh β and show him as a person β judging by some experience already β. In 1821, the Roman Academy of Arts for its drawings of the mausoleums of Augustus and Hadrian chose him as its member. This year, as can be seen from his reports, he traveled around Italy and was going from Rome to go to Northern Italy and Southern France , and then to the city of Paris to study architecture [1] .
Upon his return from abroad, V. A. Glinka received in 1824 the place of an architect under the Cabinet of His Majesty . This year he built the building of the Rumyantsev Museum on the Promenade des Anglais . In 1829, the Academy seconded students to him for practical classes [1] .
In 1830, he received the title of academician (for the aforementioned mausoleums, the Rumyantsev Museum, projects of the Lutheran Church of St. Peter, the Senate and other works), and on January 10, 1831 , and the post of professor of the 2nd degree of the Academy in the class of architecture " to respect knowledge in architecture and the important works that he performed here β [1] .
Shortly before his sudden death, Glinka married the daughter of the rector of the IAH, the famous sculptor Ivan Petrovich Martos , Ekaterina Ivanovna (born 1815) [1] .
Vasily Alekseevich Glinka died on July 4, 1831 in St. Petersburg from cholera . Martos arranged a magnificent funeral and installed a rich monument on the sonβs grave at Smolenskoye Cemetery [1] .
In the city of Pushkin, one of the streets is named after him.
